Unless there is any interest from another club for a trade he will be on the list next year as we aren't going to pay him out.

However, during that small stretch he looked to have A-grade potential as a Toby Greene lite

His game against Hawthorn last year was super, he was a bull one on one in the forward line, and did enough up the field

For whatever reasons, and they might well be legitimate, we haven't prioritised him at the selection table the way we have others. He's rarely been given a block of games.

I was surprised he went out of the team for the finals last year

Never been a worse time in footy to be a small with inside mids attributes that can't work themselves into CBA rotations. Speed is huge in the small forward or defender roles and what speed and/or engine playing out on the wing.

Rhylee West, like Wallis, is a small who kinda plays like a medium-tall. Gets goals by being a target rather than typical small forward stuff. Really doesn't fit in with our tall forward set up.

Westy and Tobias really don't seem like they will get a look in anytime soon with CBA rotations at AFL level. If this is the case, I think we really need to play them primarily forward at VFL level. Really brutal to go from playing mainly in middle at VFL level then nearly entirely forward at AFL level. Combining a massive jump in standard + role you are not familiar with and/or nature in + how quiet it can be even for the better small forwards.

LIBBA ONE OF AFL'S CUT-PRICE SUPERSTARS

Tom Liberatore might be a cut-price superstar for the Western Bulldogs, but he?s still being well rewarded for being one of the competition's best extractors.

Liberatore has reeled off three consecutive podium finishes in the club's best and fairest, the sort of return that would normally guarantee multi-year deals for any other player.

Yet the 31-year-old has signed a series of one-year deals in recent years - the latest coming in March, where he locked into 2024 on a deal believed to be just under $600,000.

That's partly to keep Liberatore hungry, but it has also been because he was just happy to get the deals done with a minimum of fuss, given his commitment to the Western Bulldogs.

The Dogs are desperate to re-sign Aaron Naughton and Tim English beyond 2024, but both players have put discussions to one side until at least the end of this season.

But despite the fact the club has an array of talent and even with the financial commitment required to lock away new deals for Naughton and English, the Dogs could still be a player in the trade and free agency market later this year.

It's understood they still have the rough salary cap space to be active in October.

                BULLDOG GOALSNEAK’S PERFECT TIMING

Selfless Bulldog Anthony Scott’s impressive three-goal haul to help sink Carlton last Saturday night could have come at an opportune time.

Scott’s management is due to sit down with the club in the coming weeks to discuss a potential new deal that will likely see him remain at the Whitten Oval for at least two more seasons.

There is still plenty to be worked through, but it would be a well-deserved extension for the 28-year-old mature- aged rookie, who applies great pressure and has hit the scoreboard in his past four matches.

Scott had to fight his way into the AFL system but has now played 44 games and kicked 23 goals since being picked up in the 2021 preseason.

He is one of 12 Bulldogs to have played every game so far this season, providing good value for money.

After some early preliminary discussions on a new deal earlier in the year, it is understood those talks could ramp up before the club’s Round 15 bye.

I don’t think money is an issue, attracting the talent is the key. Hopefully we can build stronger into next year.

Whose signature is more important Aaron Naughton or Tim English?

Rhetorical question - Aaron Naughton is the correct answer.

Yep. I’d be shocked if either left though. Both boys doing the right thing trying to perform up the value of a long contract.

Glad to hear Libba is getting decent $. When players get down to 1 year deals I always think they're doing that on a massive discount (although when you look at what some Carlton blokes are earning then Libba should be on $850k per year but $600k is pretty decent no matter how you look at it). Hopefully we keep Libba for another couple of years. He's having a great season.

Naughton would add more to the marketing of the team. He'd be a pretty popular draw card.

Can't see either leaving this contract. Maybe next but I'd HOPE that the squad we have can stay together for another 3 or so years and give it a red hot crack.

IMO Aaron Naughton is harder to replace. 23 year old key forward who has the potential to be the best key forward in the game.

His effort is non-conditional from flying for marks, chasing ground balls or pressuring the opposition when they have the ball.

I get the feeling you disagree?

I can’t see Naughton leaving and don’t think we could have done more to accomodate Tim. This is also not a right now problem.
