English for mine. I think it's pretty obvious that Bevo will only play a ruck that has the running capacity to contribute around the ground.

How many are there in the comp that can do that, plus everything else you look for in a ruck, at a high level? English, Gawn, Marshall, Grundy at his best - it starts to get thin after that. Bevo simply won't play a ruck that can't run, and we seemingly won't draft one either. If English goes, that's a bloody tough player to replace - if we're lucky enough to draft one, it's taken English 5+ years to become a reliable contributor, let alone A-Grader.

Naughty is one of my all-time faves (and I have the t-shirt to prove it!), but we're absolutely stocked for key forwards - Marra, Lobb, Darcy, Bruce, Croft to come. He probably has the higher ceiling as a player, but I think he's an easier player to cover considering Bevo and the state of our list.

      So...

Bruce wont ever be a #1 key forward again.
Lobb never was and never will be.
Darcy and Croft we have no idea about.

Wind the clock back a few years...the hardest players to find are key position forwards.

We have genuinely struck gold with Naughton and outside of Bont we need to prioritise his signature above all others.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

It's Naughton and it's not close.

Based on what we suspect with Bevo it could easily be English.

We were fortunate to land English in the ruck. Port picked up Todd Marshall ahead of our pick, so English was available.

We would be still searching for a makeshift ruck if English was not here.

                    Re: 2023 List Management Thread

So basically at the half way mark now. Where do we see things?

To start, I want 8 senior list changes (6 after re-balancing two spots off the rookie list and onto the main list). So that?s 8 new players including rookie upgrade/s. Six retired/delisted. Scott, Roarke & McNeil must be promoted or delisted having served their maximum time.

So for me, 6 players come in draft & trade, maybe two rookie upgrades (Scott and McNeil vs Roarke for the other).

Six retirements/delistings required - the uncontracted are:

                    Hayden Crozier: 2023
                    Laitham Vandermeer: 2023
                    Tim O'Brien: 2023
                    Jordon Sweet: 2023
                    Mitch Hannan: 2023
                    Dominic Bedendo: 2023
                    Buku Khamis: 2023
                    Toby McLean: 2023
                    Alex Keath: 2023
                    Taylor Duryea: 2023

Let?s assume Keath & Duryea retire. For Aza, let?s assume Williams re-signs. No trade requests out. Which four at this point of the season are looking like needing big season finishes?

Crozier, VDM, Bedendo & McLean/Hannan? Would any be rookie list candidates at the rookie draft or look for new kids. We will have one or two pick?s depending on using the MSD pick with two rookie list spots back on the main list.

                      Re: 2023 List Management Thread

BT, I think you have pretty much nailed it.

For mine I would promote Anthony Scott and Roarke Smith and delist Lachie McNeil.

I'd also like to clear the decks for a fresh bunch of rookie listed players. I think we may have missed a trick or two in not having a fresh batch of rookies come through in the past couple of years.

Off the list Keath, McLean, Bedendo, Hannan, Vandeermeer and Khamis. Unfortunately I think Khamis has the ability to make it but he is behind too many similar types.

Sign Sweet and O'Brien with a watch on Duryea and Crozier. Duryea is currently best 22 and Crozier clearly offers leadership and experience in the VFL team. All things being equal I'd resign both.

Still more to play out but one year deals for a few of them.

                        Hayden Crozier: 2023
Laitham Vandermeer: 1 to 2 years but depends if he can stay fit
                        Tim O'Brien: 2023 - We should sign on a 1 year deal
Jordon Sweet: 2023 - We should sign on a 1 year deal
                        Mitch Hannan: 2023

I think unless Sweet is happy playing for Footscray he will seek opportunities elsewhere.
So we should be looking for a ruck backup incase Tim goes either down or poached out.
I would like to keep Bendendo and Khamis as for the rest I would like some fresh blood and hopefully a speedy mid with good skills.

It’s worth it. I think he’s the finishing touch to the forward line. Hope he’s not convinced to change his mind to stay there.
