If he can convince the club of the need to do it. It’s a hard argument. Rocket was sacked for trying to make the same argument. The powers that be don’t like hearing it. We’ll soon see….

Yeah we do if the footy department is willing to make the hard calls and let him take on the challenge.

I think Power is outstanding. But if his plan is tinker at the edges we are all in trouble. Turning two guys who are 80+ a year combined goal kickers into defenders and wingers seems crazy to me. But Power didn’t decide to do that.

Bruce going into defence was his own idea and was done to save his career. Marra, Lobb and Naughton play forward in front of him and rightly so.

Naughton and Marra need to start supporting Lobb a bit more.

              Re: 2023 List Management Thread

i think its more to do with Player development , injury and delisting the list cloggers.

Hawthorn, Geelong, Port and Sydney are very sharp with their delisting. They let go of plenty of players. Lincoln McCarthy, Darcy Fort, Hamling, Gardner, Narkle, Nakia Cookatoo who end up on other teams list for a while...

All these clubs have very good player development, evident in the number of young players stepping up.

We need to be asking the questions why are our young players not banging on the door of selection??

Hunter gone, we should have a young player or 2 as a winger.

In hindsight, we should have cut Young a year earlier.

Why is Sweet not being played in the ruck more ?

Chris maple must have been an outstanding coach to get the best out of the team, or just all the elements were there that allowed him to win a VFL GF ?

                Re: 2023 List Management Thread

I?ve been very consistent on this we need to hit the draft, four picks in the top 30 this year and the same again next year.

To help turn over the list contracts shouldn?t be an obstacle in our decision making.

We also need to consider strongly no contract lengths that are 5+ years and $800K plus.

As for free agents I?d look at Doedee only as we are in dire need for defensive help.

Agree totally. No more trading for hasbeens. Get some fresh blood in.

Does the Bevo have it in him to move on the more average type players with not a lot of upside?
Ive read on here for years that we dont move players on quick enough and hold some average players for a season or two too long and if so will that change?

We have been running a thin coaching team for a few seasons now and perhaps a reinvestment in development coaches is the go.
I think I read here that our footy department was tight for scope to spend more so you have to wonder why.

                        No.

Power will have to do the heavy lifting. Is Bevo, after a decade, the right man to lead a list rebuild is another big question.

Its not Powers call on who stays and goes is it? Its all down to Bevo and the coaches and Powers job is to make the most of it and present options on who might be available or interested in coming too us? Makes it hard on Power and the team.

Power is list manager, but Bevo has a very big say, but someone in the club needs to get through to him. Hopefully Sam Power can get the list culled. I really thought we had a heap of depth this season. But the list is clogged and there’s enough green shoots to come through.

If you believe the whole Moneyball movie the Manager or Coach can be overruled by someone else on playing personnel and it clearly separates coaching from recruitment. I havent thought it through but it is appealing. Id say Bevo gets his way 100% of the time and if challenged on recruiting he would walk.
