Roarke Smith is good enough but unfortunately is too injury prone and should be delisted.

Duyrea I think we will sign him purely as we don’t have a small lockdown ready to go.

    Would you keep them?

I agree, we need to keep Dureya this year as we don’t have too many in the team that plays his position, hopefully he can mentor Luke Cleary in that role. I really like the look of Cleary. It’s hard with Roarke Smith, when he plays he is very consistent and never tries to play outside his capabilities but this year was a disaster for him. I think they will be waiting until after the draft to see how many spots we have left in the team.

I think we should keep the turnover at a max 8-9. Anymore is too much given it’s a shallow draft. We have already lost 6.

If Roarkes body is right I’m keeping him.

I expect both Mclean and Crozier to seek a trade. Potentially Khamis aswell. If all three go that takes us to 9.

I wouldn’t be aggrieved if we didn’t sign McNeal up either. I don’t really see it with him. Not clean/ skills aren’t good enough for a small.

I feel we could give Roark 1 more year , if it does not work out for him mid season , there is always mid season draft, where we can top up . Not sure how delisting a player mid year works or allowed
It ridiculous the demands of footy on the body , once injuries pile on it’s really hard to get out and play back into form . Clay smith was an incredible strong mental and physical player to get back into the team with so many ACL injuries .

Dureya on field prescience is need to coach the back line.

How interested are you about the Dogs potentially adding Brynn Teakle as a delisted free agent?
We are one of the clubs with an apparent link to him. He could potentially join the club in November.
He's obviously not quite ready yet for a full season as a senior ruckman but he looks athletic enough and would be a nice replacement for losing Jordan Sweet.

Could we land James Jordan and Brynn Teakle on the cheap?

I'd be happy with that - I think he's the best available option in terms of a 'Bevo' ruck. He seems like a good runner, is nimble at ground level and can play key forward or back at a pinch.

I still like Goldstein as the kind of option that you could plug in if English did his knee in round 1, but I imagine he's still going to command good money next year that you can't afford to be paying a back-up. If the Essendon links are correct, he and Draper are going to be a pretty unusual pair to deal with.

A few scenarios to consider with whatever ruckman we add to our list:

                - if Tim is our clear #1 then the other ruck is only going to play if Tim is injured/suspended
                - if Tim has a short term injury, are we OK for them to fill in for the short term?
                - if Tim does his ACL in Round 1, would we perhaps consider Lobb as our number 1?
                - can the ruck play other roles? Lobb and Darcy would be ahead as forwards you would think
                - do we want a different style of ruck on the list to Tim (e.g. bulkier stoppage-first ruck) or indeed would our selection committee pick that style of ruck? It’s a bit like NFL backup quarterbacks, are you best to have your backup also as a running QB so that your game style stays consistent?

I don’t know enough about Teakle but from what I’ve read and mjp’s comments, he seems as good an option as any. My personal view is that Lobb could ruck a lot more than he did this year 70/30 with Tim and even some games where it’s 30/70. I like the fact that Teakle sounds a better forward option than Sweet. Means he is also competing with Lobb and Darcy not just English for a role.

                  Like all of this.

The part about having the similar back up is a great idea.

Seems some of the Port fans liked him.

Bit of a concern if a club desperate for rucks is letting one go, though.

He looks like Caleb Poulter's bigger brother.

I also posted this article in the trade thread from last year prior to his first game that gives a bit of an idea about him. MJP has also shared some thoughts there.

                          Thanks Axe. Legend.

So it sounds like he's more in the English mould than Sweet. Could be the perfect backup.

Perhaps it's a bit of a systems thing, like SG mentioned with QBs and their back ups.

Hinkley and Port seem to rate their own operations and feel they are on the right path. They have/had Lycett and after Soldo.

Lycett/Soldo + Sweet, whoever is back up, works well being more old school type rucks.

Port also have Finlayson and Dixon as R2/fwds which makes it hard for Teakle.

If we were interested in Teakle would we:

                              A) Told Port that to facilitate a trade for Sweet
                              B) Told Port we weren’t interested and hope he became a DFA

Whilst we might be interested, it highlights that Port were not thinking anyone wanted him in a trade scenario no matter how cheap.

I do kind of wonder that if the club thinks (not me necessarily) that 4 guys over 200cm (Tim, Lobb, Darcy & Croft) is already enough and that a fifth is overkill? I mean Croft for Sweet is simply swapping out two developing 200cm players that will play VFL all season. So why get two? (Yes conventional thinking says get a back up, but we haven’t been ultra conventional with rucking since Bevo got here)

Perhaps Teakle knows Port wouldn't offer a contract to him and he has the choice that comes with being a DFA.

We have a lot of talls for sure but not so much in terms of short term back up ruck solutions.
