He's meant to have great insurance and speed. I think it was the 800m test at the combine last year he finished 1st by a long way and posted the 3rd ever best time. Some other event he posted a time good enough to qualify for the commonwealth games. His left foot is also meant to be damaging. Very precise and penetrating. Not sure how he is on the right

      Speed:

Fastest 3km time trial at the 2012 National Draft Combine (9.48 seconds) as an underage player
Ran an 800m spring in 1.56 (could qualify for the Commonwealth Games)

      Skill:

Quote from earlier, "Kelly is a massive accumulator of the footy, has elite awareness, teriffic vision in traffic, and Kelly’s efficient ball use saw him finish inside the top 1% of all players to take part in this year’s National Championships. Kelly also has a fantastic pedigree, his father Phil played 61 games with North Melbourne, and was a two-time Sandover Medalist in the WAFL. Kelly is all class, although he has a light frame, his ability to look motionless through traffic, as if he has all the time in the world, is akin to similar traits of Scott Pendlebury – he is a smooth mover. Kelly is the type of player his teammates look to get the ball to, his ability to find targets on his left foot with ease, is as uncanny as it is natural. Kelly’s elite endurance explains why he gets to so many contests and in return, a lot of the ball. He goes all day, runs both ways and is such a hard worker and can make an immediate impact in 2014 – the likes of the Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda will be strongly considering him should he be avaliable come their first pick."

        Anytime Aza!

I somewhat agree, I'd still like us to pursue Boyd, but if GWS are idiots, then Kelly would be an instant favourite of mine at the dogs.

Well I agree on not selling the farm, however the club should be endeavouring to fire a shot.

3.10 over 20m which is below average. Wallis tested quicker.

From the aforementioned website. Seems they like Kelly or this fellow for pick 4.

              MATTHEW SCHARENBERG

              Height: 190cm
              Weight: 89kg
              Team/Club: South Australia/Glenelg
              Poisition: Utility
              Player comparison: Brendan Goddard
              Draft Range: 1-5

              Player Profile

Matthew Scharenberg has shot to prominance after an outstanding National Carnival that saw him take hom All Australian honours and a joint winner of SA’s MVP award with captain Luke Dunstan. Scharenberg is a rare talent, hailing from an elite baseball background (once playing in the junior Australian team) – awareness, vision and poise are key attributes that allow Scharenberg to look as though he has all the time in the world with ball in hand. He often plays the game on his own terms, and is one of the classiest players in this yeras crop. The beauty of Scharenberg, is that he can play an array of poisitions well; whether that be a free-wheeling reboudning defender, or an agile, quick and responsive type up forward, Scharenberg can play anywhere with ease, and with the number one kick rating in the championships, he’s the type of player teammates look to get the ball into the hands of. The figure to Scharenberg’s game, is his ability to take the game on, back his strengths and use them to his advantage.

              Quote

“Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark Williams once described Matthew Scharenberg as the best schoolboy footballer he had seen since Wayne Carey.” – Andrew Capel, Adelaide Now Reporter.

              Strengths:

Can play anywhere all over the ground and super well, elite reader of the play, strong overhead and in the air, clean ball use, elite at ground level, good decision maker, brilliant kick either side of his body, good composure under pressure, racks up rebound 50’s, can play forward with immediate effect, impacts the scoreboard, reliable kick under pressure, the best utility of the draft, difficult to match up on, cool in traffic, poise, incredible awareness and vision, reliable set shot, has agility in spades, senior experience at SANFL level, play maker showed enourmous ability to play through the midfield, on the wings as a lock down defender and a forward option – Mr Versatile.

              Weaknesses:

It’s incredibly hard to find a weakness of Scharenberg. Those from afar believe him be too offensive and “nothing but a free-wheeling defender”, with some going as far to suggest that he’s drawn comparisions with Port Adelaide’s Sam Colqhoun who racked up so much football off half back, playing a loose role, and was found out defensively (due to the style of play the under 18 system is encouraged to play for recruiters). This however, is a bad and very wrong observation. If any whack can be given to Scharenberg, it’s perhaps that we haven’t seen him dominate one set position, becuase he is reguarly thrown into different positions on the ground throughout the game. (And that’s hardly a whack!).

              Stats

              Round 1 – 26 disposals (20 kicks), 10 marks, 7 inside 50′s and 7 rebound 50′s
              Round 3 - 27 disposals, 4 rebound 50′s and 4 marks
              Round 4 - 22 disposals, 5 marks, 2 inside 50′s and 5 rebound 50′s
              Round 5 - 17 disposals, 5 marks and 6 rebound 50′s
Averaged six marks and 21.6 disposals in the National Championships
Recorded the number 1 disposal effieicncy in the National Championships

              Honours

In 2010 Wallis' year, the average for 20m sprints was 3.04 seconds. Kelly did 3.10 as an underager. Plus, he broke other records as mentioned. Plus finished in the top 1% for disposal efficiency.

Again as an underager, he finished 5th for repeat sprints, 4th in the beep test, 1st in the time trial and equalled Macrae in the goal kicking test (4th).

He performed better as an underager than any of our picks from last year.

Not too sure of the Wallis comparisons there Stache.

The 20m sprint is the test for burst pace, he's not quick. That was the question asked.

As the test results you posted show, he is obviously a good endurance runner.

He's very similarly matched to Hunter, with Hunter being quicker but Kelly edging him for endurance. They're also almost the same age.

True. But 10th in the sprint came in at 2.93 seconds. Kelly, underage, was 3.10.

0.17 seconds between top 10 and his result is hardly, "not quick" though. Especially as he gets fitter, bigger and stronger.

There's not much between it but it equates to a couple of metres in the flesh and a couple of metres is a lot on a footy field. 5 of the ruckmen tested ran 3.10 or better.

Pure stats aren't the be all and end all though it should be said, give me a kid who can play over a kid who surprised people with how well he tested. 10 years of Scott Clayton taught me that. Hrovat tested slow but still looks like he moves well on the field and best of all he can clearly play .

We need pace in the midfield - watching Wallis get burned off just makes me wince. For all his other attributes teams exploit it. Kelly (at the moment) has virtually no inside game and poor standing start pace which is why I don't rate him in with the other top 3 picks. I'd rather Billings myself. Think he will be a very very good footballer. Kelly will be good, and he's clearly first round/likely to be top 22 pretty quickly for a team. I'm not convinced on great.

Yep. If the biggest knock on athletic freak, endurance athlete, Dual All Australian mid fielder, who dominated every level of boys footy who has disposal effeciency in the best 1% off the champs, and regarded by many to be the love child of Griffen & Penlebury is 0.10 seconds over 20 metres... And that drops him to pick 4... well.... Welcome to the dogs son!

                            Same site guys,

                            Billings

                            Height: 184cm
                            Weight: 78kg
                            Team/Club: Victoria Metro/Oakleigh Chargers/Scotch College
                            Position: Forward
                            Player Comparision: Jimmy Bartel
                            Draft Range: 4-10

                            Player Profile

Perhaps one of the most deadliest users of the footy in this year’s draft, Jack Billings is a rare and special talent who’s game nous, and weapon of a left foot hurts the opposition if given too much room. Billings has been lauded for his sticky hands, and is exceptional overhead and in the air. When the ball hits ground level, Billings has an uncanny ability to find his way through and out of traffic, setting up his team mates, or going the journey to kick a goal from close or long range. Outside of packs, Billings knows where to run, when to spread and his vision is impeccable, making for all the traits of a future elite midfielder. Billings is super similar to his 2012 Oakeligh teammate Jackson Macare, in that they both play predominately off half forward, but have the scope to go through the middle. Billings is very crafty around goals, but will look to further develop his endurance running to add to his flash and flamboyancy. Billings has capped off a tremendous 2013 carnival, taking home All Australian Honours to now make him a dual All Australian player.

                            Strengths

clean hands in the air or at ground level, multiple goal kick, very quick, super agile, clean skills, fantastic vision and awareness, racks up a lot of the ball, good leap, ability to move into the midifeld, elite kick on either side, rare playmaking ability, always spots up a target inside 50, great compsure and calm under pressure, strong marker and will add instnat flair and impact to any clubs forward line.

                            Weaknessness

Hasn’t shown a big endurance base to be able to play through the midfield, but wins so much ball off a half forward flank that many would believe he is a midfielder.

                            Stats

                            Round 4 – 20 disposals, 7 marks, 2 clearances and 1 goal.
                            Round 5 - 15 disposals, 3 marks, 2 score assists and 3 goals
Australia vs New Zealand – 4 Goals and 22 disposals (BOG) in 2012
Averaged 19 touches for Oakleigh in their premiership year in 2012.
                            Honours

Who wrote that? One of his mates? A spell check would be good next time. And "shooting to prominence" is a curious call the year after he was an AA as an under ager

That's definitely moving, but you need 1:47 for Comm Games
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.
