Games are more fun and played with flair up there.
It's not any racial undertones at all. The under 18's are virtually the same, and when kids are drafted they're taught where to run and how to defend.
With Williams retirement I wonder if that moves Marchbank and Durdin a bit higher on our wish list?
I guess it will depend how confident we are in a mix of Roughead, Roberts and Talia getting it done over the longer term, with perhaps Austin if we persist with him. Given the age of the first 3, it depends if we think we need another young key defender who will take a few years to develop now or whether we think we can hold off for another year or 2 before adding that type too.
I think we should just stick with best available, and I kinda hoping it's a running player, quick and skillful.

Durdin maybe with our 1st rounder. Marchbank I think will be gone half way between our 1st and 2nd picks. I like that Durdin is a swingman, I think it's important to have someone who can play where they are needed from week to week

I'd have Marchbank well into the top 10 and I think he could be in the mix for us. His athleticism and the fact he can play on a flank or a KP would suit us. Durdin is one of the more versatile KPP in the draft and I think CHB might be his best position,

What if the best available is a tough, inside mid-fielder? Do we pass, or grab another one?
Surely we have to pass? We passed on Olie Wines and drafted Stringer and Macrae from memory. The only unknown in that scenerio is did they rate Wines higher than Stringer and Macrae.
I'd be bemused to say the least if we drafted another pure inside midfielder.
Does anyone have an opinion around the age of a draftee in relation to where the core of the team is theoretically positioned in relation to a sustained finals tilt?
e.g choice of two-three players as 'best available' with marginal differences. Do you take the older, or younger player relative to the where the list currently is?
Often a player can miss out on the previous draft by a matter of days/weeks. Conversly there can also be close to 24 months in age difference for potential draftees e.g those this year born in 1995 and retained by TAC sides vs. the late 1996 babies.

There are probably that many variables to consider when drafting the best player which is essentially the highest rated player on your draft list when it comes time to make your selection. As an example, if a player was ranked number 4 on you list and assuming the first 3 were already selected by other clubs then you would just select the highest rated supplier player who is still available.
You probably do that for the first 2 or 3 selections and have a modified approach for the remaining selections in an effort to try and balance the list.
Easier said than done though because if you still have a player available that you rated in the top 20 around pick 40 then I think you would select him regardless of who you previously selected.
If there is a tendency to grab the younger players it would be a very slight consideration. If you are building towards a finals tilt then you would modify that approach more with trades than at the draft table.
It all comes down to how the club rates players. My guess is we probably get the players we want with later picks because we tend to rate players differently to other clubs.

How overloaded are we really? Cross is gone, Boyd might be. Stevens & Wallis are still in and out of the side. Smith will be a player if he stops getting injured but can play forward too, as can Stevens, and Wallis has become a tagger. Cooney, Bonts, Macrae, and the small mid/forwards Hrovat, Dahlhaus, Tutt, Hunter & Honeychurch are outside, and Griffen can do either. Picken is in defense, and Prudden hasn't played a game yet. That only leaves Libba as a permanent fixture.
