Any chance on getting in his ear and getting him to do a wingard ie: telling every club not to draft him because he will request a bulldogs trade at the end of his first 2 years?

Just a read of that, KM has McCartin slipping to us on his health issues. If we can manage them, then geez I would be happy with that. I'm not going to hold my breath, there are some pretty big wraps not just from me, but on him from people I trust.

After seeing Pete Wright destroy Geelong (and Zaine) a few weeks back, what I would give to have him.

On McCartin, are we comfortable with his height at 192-193, and his set shot defficiencies (as per the phantom draft comments) for a KPF?
        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

With a bit of luck Durdin and Cordy may line up on each other Sunday. I'll try and get a few photos. (If the rain stays away)

I am. He's more KPF than say a similar height player, like Lamb for instance.

What I saw last season he looks like a key forward.
The kicking bit worries me, as does the constant talk for a key forward.
I hope the club picks the best available at our pick and doesn't reach.

He was impressive last year in the Champs wasn't he? I'm not sure of the extent of his condition and what it may mean moving forward, but on pure ability I'd have him right at the pointy end. His size isn't a concern for me.

Clem Smith is the other bloke I'm pretty keen on at this early stage.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Anyone following the SA group have any comment on Jesse Watchman? Haven't seen as much of the SA kids this year as I did last year. Last year he looked like a kid on the rise? Has he gone on with it at all? Cheers

                      Re: 2014 draft watch

For those interested, I asked Knightmare his thoughts on what type of player we should be targeting and likely to get with a pick around 4-7 and this was his response:

A key position player would be optimal. If a Goddard is available that would be a great outcome. Patrick McCartin with the recent media talk of him going potentially even pick one probably isn't available but would be a great pick also.

If the talls aren't available Jarrod Pickett would be a really nice fit. Takes on the game just about every time he gets the ball and would give the Dogs something they don't presently have.

Duggan and Lever if picking from 7 onward would then come into calculations and be better picks in the 7-11 range.

For those interested, he also stated that Zaine Cordy is proving to be be a solid contributor and may well end up a late f/s choice ala Lachie Hunter.

                            MCDONALD’S SA UNDER-18 TEAM GAME 3
By ZAC MILBANK | Twitter @zacmilbank

Promising key forward Jesse Watchman is poised to play his first match of the AFL Under-18 National Championship on Saturday.

Watchman, one of six players included in the McDonald’s SA Under-18 line-up, will tackle Western Australia in Perth from 12.30pm (SA time).

‘’Jesse comes in on the back of a couple of really good goalkicking spells at West Adelaide,’’ SANFL High Performance Manager Brenton Phillips said.

‘’He’s kicked five and six (goals) in consecutive weeks (in the Under-18 Macca’s Cup) so he gets an opportunity to go across to the west.’’

A member of the AIS/AFL Academy, Watchman’s build up to the national carnival has been hindered by an interrupted pre-season.

‘’He had an interrupted pre-season as he has had shoulder problems along the way,’’ Phillips said of Watchman, 197cm and 94kg.

‘’So his pre-season wasn’t as good as he would have liked. He hadn’t got on the ground and training track long enough to put consecutive games together so we made him play and earn his spot.’’

Watchman will be joined by fellow inclusions Tim Sullivan, Joseph Brown, Jack Elsworthy and Tom Gray, who will also play his first match of the campaign.

Glenelg midfielder Cory Gregson couldn’t be considered due to a minor foot complaint while James Rose, Josh Miller, Luke Partington and Aaron Francis have been squeezed out.

‘’It has come on a bit sore,’’ Phillips said of Gregson.

‘’He hadn’t done a lot since the game on the weekend as we only had a recovery session on Monday night. It is more precautionary as we could have played him had it been a do-or-die type scenario.

‘’But he has got 10 to 15 years of footy in front of him so we are mindful that we don’t want it to create a major problem for him.’’

After consecutive wins against WA and Victoria Country at AAMI Stadium, the McDonald’s SA Under-18 team now hits the road for the first time in the championships.

‘’I quite like the road trips as it brings the group together although we are a pretty close group anyway,’’ Phillips said.

‘’You are in tight confines together like motel rooms, buses and planes so from my point of view I like seeing the personality side of the player and not just their on-field talent.

‘’It gives me a good insight into that side of their life.’’

Phillips is bracing his men for a fiery contest, considering the Sandgropers managed to kick just two goals in their last outing against Victoria Metro.

‘’We’re mindful they are coming off a result they probably wouldn’t have liked last week,’’ Phillips said.

‘’So they will be smarting a bit and will be at us with aggression. If we don’t match that head-on, we might find ourselves in the same situation we were in last week during the first quarter in chasing backsides for a fair portion of the game.’’

Thanks TT. That makes sense why he vanished then. Glad they are easing him back into it; ruddy shoulder injuries. Kid had/has talent. Hope he goes on with it through the champs.
