Have only seen him once. He played in a Foxtel Cup game a few weeks back. Big boy, solidly built, but initial impressions were that he was a straight up and down forward with limited tricks. Would take a few years to come on at AFL level. Just the once glimpse though so could be totally wrong. Hopefully see him a few times this Carnival.

      Re: 2014 draft watch

For those who care, I posted this following question to another amateur under 18's watcher for their opinion on the dogs for the upcoming draft:

Chris - what are your thoughts on the dogs likely first round pick?
In my mind, we are likely to have a pick around 4-7. Who do you see being a logical selection for us and where do you see us needing the most help?
We need help all over the field, and with our first pick im not sure who does more for us.
ie: Goddard for our KPP stocks, Pickett/Smith for our outside run and carry, Lever for our rebound?

      And here was his response:

Can't say I've really looked at teams and their individual needs quite yet, but the Bulldogs will be in an interesting spot if they are picking in that 4-7 range. Ideally, Patrick McCartin would be available but that seems pretty unlikely as he should be the first KPP taken. And then their second choice would likely be Peter Wright, but again there is no guarantee he drops out of the top 3. So what do they do then?

Sam Durdin and Hugh Goddard would be next in line, but neither are really the type of KPP that the Bulldogs would ideally be drafting (at least in my opinion). As good as Durdin is, he is more that Jordan Roughead type defender, or hard running mobile CHF type. I imagine they'd more rather a powerful tall to play out of the goal square and really straighten them up. I'd think he more suits a team like Melbourne, who may end up picking before the Bulldogs. And I personally wouldn't draft Goddard in the top 10. They'd perhaps be better off making bids for Darcy Moore and Matthew Hammelmann, and looking at a Reece McKenzie or Jesse Watchman in the second/third rounds.

So that leaves midfield/utilities. Given their recent drafting of Stringer and Bontempelli to go with Crameri, I think we can rule out someone like a Christian Petracca or Tom Lamb. And it would probably be a bit early for someone like a Clem Smith, who arguably is more a defender and doesn't really project as a genuine midfield option. Jarrod Pickett would be an option, and the Bulldogs could afford to take that chance given they've already stocked up on inside midfielders. Otherwise, it may just depend on who they rate as the best midfielder - Liam Duggan would probably be my choice for the Bulldogs, given his foot skills.

At this very early stage, I would be choosing between Pickett and Duggan (assuming the best KPP options are off the board), grabbing a McKenzie or Watchman in the second round and improving the defensive rebound later on - maybe someone like a Dillon Viojo-Rainbow is available, alternatively solid players are always on offer in the rookie draft as well as overaged players like Sam Bennett from North Ballarat. A lot can and will change before the draft, but the Bulldogs might just play themselves out of the race for the one player they arguably need most.

Oh and for those who don't know, Liam Duggan actually trained with the club in the pre season as part of the AIS-AFL academy.

Don't know how those types of things get organised but Stringer did the same thing and we picked him up. I wonder just how much Duggan impressed the club when he was there in the pre season?

Pickett had a very good game today apparently too.

Fair game from Jarrod Pickett for WA. 21 disposals, three goals, five clearances and seven inside-50s.

It's organised early on. The Dogs had two Western Jets boys Duggan and Dawam.

That worries me being stuck in draft No mans land.

Both Pickett and Clem Smith are great. Aboriginal kids, but very different. Pickett plays like a Brad Hill/Jeff Garlett. Smith reminds me of Graham Johncock in his shape and endeavour.

                  Re: 2014 draft watch

On the needs of the list it's likely we will target a KPP but I do believe we won't just take a KPP if we believe there are better players ahead if them. Petracca or Clem Smith would be a terrific midfielder option when paired with Clay Smith and Liberatore. The likes of Duggan or Ellus would address our need to improve our kicking skills in the midfield.
Durdins unique ability to play as a forward, defender or spend some time in the ruck is also something we need.
