Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction

The thing that bugs me, lack of communication.

They are not warning people about lock downs and saying, if A happens, B will result. Some people in an apartment complex in Brisbane noticed police cars outside their building. Several hours later they were told they were in lock down. No chance to buy food, or essential items. Some people are caring for elderly relatives in there.
Tradies not given warning that when things get to a certain level, sites will be shut down. No, it's just announced.

Very close to home for me with at least 4 exposure sites in my street including the gym I go to. Lucky I wasn't a lazy prick on Monday morning and got to the gym at 7am, because if I'd delayed it by a hour I'd be in iso for 14 days.

And that's the bloody problem. Met one of my wife's new acquaintances the other day. No vaccines for them. After listening to this crap and sitting quietly my head stated to explode so I gave them an earful. Silence all round. After "the look" from my wife we excused ourselves and left the gathering. We both agree not to associate with any dopey anti-vaxxers. They are bloody everywhere. Can't see how we will reach 80%.

Good on you mate. I am sick of them as well. Don't they realise this is not going away unless we get herd immunity.

Can you blame people hesitant to get a vaccine which nobody really knows the long term side effects of? Nevermind if those same people have any pre-existing health concerns.

The narrative from the health experts has changed monthly regarding vaccines and who should take what. They have hardly inspired confidence in the community. When you've got a CHO telling people to "duck" if a football comes their way, well....

They live inside their own little bubble BAD. Luckily our area has never had a covid case but this influences their crazy thinking even more. Can feel my blood pressure rise as I listen to them. On the other hand most of the people we associate with have had their jab so all is not lost ha ha.

I think that's the point, if there's a suspected outbreak you don't give people forewarning to stop them from ducking out and doing last minute things in the community.

The medical advice isn't even aligned.

The Vic CHO says all can take AZ, but both the SA & Qld CHO say you need to be over 60.

AZ only has preliminary approval due to the lack of scientific data regarding long term effects which aren't known.

So people have every right to make a choice that is right for them given that there is not definitive medical advice to prove otherwise.

Living in Richmond/ north end of Burnley street I felt like at the last outbreak the virus was closing in on me, local cafes, Vic Gardens and other spots I frequent were listed as hot spots, plus a building on my street was locked down for a fortnight.

It's all down to luck really.

Yeah, if you're over 50-60 it's easy to say to everyone 'get the jab' given AZ is readily available and the safest option for them. For those in our 30s and 40s (and under), it's not so simple.

If it helps any. From what I understand ATAGI say the risk of clotting to under 60’s is rare (1/1,500,000). So on risk, if you’re not in danger of a serious outbreak, don’t take the very, very small risk. Wait. However, if you’re facing down a serious outbreak the risk profile changes in that it’s still 1/1,500,000 for the clotting, but the increased likelihood of contracting, and possibly being hospitalised/dying from it would significantly outweigh the clotting risk. The actual vaccine isn’t changing, it’s the risk profile. Which is a personal choice and assessment for an individual.

And the game's changed a little given the new Delta variant. It's more infectious and a number I read quoted is that you're 1 in 35 of dying if you contract it.

The risk of death from Covid-19 in Australia, in contrast, is one in 35. While the risk of death is highest in older age groups, we are now seeing serious illness and death in unvaccinated young patients.
