Comrade, so right about the state bickering. It's very annoying that for the first 6 months, had I flown to Sydney, I would pay 3000 in quarrantine costs. in Victoria 7000 in quarrantine fees. All these differences in strategy.
The fortress mentality does not work unless we get vaccination going.
Lock downs are needed, but If we go for a lockdown strategy all the time without lots more vaccination, when it gets out it is just more damaging.
They need an urgent campaign to get as many people vaccinated as possible. Axe man is right, it's kind of a social duty to get the vaccine, if your health will permit it.

That's precisely why we are in this mess. You can be in quarantine for 2 weeks, test negative, be released and then feel ill, then infect others. The Brisbane airport worker did the right thing, had been vaccinated, but still had it and infected other people.
More testing is needed, every expert agrees.

Rapid testing, It's not a solution by itself, but an extra layer that works. Mining companies, Sydney Opera Companies and others are doing it. I suspect the AFL will too.

PCR on its own is too slow. Testing lines went for kilometers in Sydney, and in Melbourne people were being turned away.
53,000 in a day in a city the size of Melbourne is still not enough, especially in an open society where people do not always follow the rules.
Yesterday they interviewed a bunch of people in Sydney. People in restaurants etc. Not everyone was wearing masks.
There will always be those who refuse health laws.

In China I got the Sinovac one. Wish me luck, I'm not glowing yet....
Rapid tests pick up high viral load is my understanding not all infections.

However I agree they should be part of the strategy and agree we've make some blunders!

Not glowing ha that's a bonus. How's your mobile reception?

HaHa. Well magnetic things have not been flying onto my arm.
They are handling the virus quite well here.

PCR also misses some infections. Some people test negative a few times, then get a positive. They are a useful second layer to add to the mix.

Early last year, the UK spammed rapid testing and it was a failure because they used a particular American brand.
They did further testing in three phases to find the top 30% best tests and now have them free to 90% of all pharmacies across the UK.
They come in a pack that allows you to test twice a week for three weeks.

"A new study by researchers at Queen Mary University of London, University of Oxford, Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna, and the Medical University of Graz, has found that lateral flow tests detect Covid-19 with similar accuracy to laboratory-based PCR tests, providing they are used at the onset of infection and soon after symptoms start."

They are a tenth of the cost of PCR. Any of the people who were turned away from testing in the last few days could have Covid 19. If they invested in these things, people could simply do it at home rather than having to wait for hours. This costs money, people's time.

            Sucks about Josh Dunkley.....gutted.

You said to GVGjr that you’re working from home and you can keep on going into the night and plough through to all hours, and you’re lucky you can when others can’t. Now we now how you can and also what your daily lockdown exercise is.

Sydney no chance of getting out anytime soon.

Victoria extended to at least another week.

Plus the above SA 7 day lockdown, at a minimum.
