THE WESTERN Bulldogs' preparation for their top-of-the-table clash with Melbourne has been thrown a curveball after the club was placed into quarantine.

A staff member visited Highpoint Shopping Centre in the Victoria's western suburbs during a COVID-19 exposure period, which has seen players and coaches at the club receive COVID-19 tests on Tuesday morning.

They will be isolating until they return negative tests, which the AFL hopes will be through in the coming hours.
The COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne has left uncertainty about crowds at this weekend's games, with the League continuing to monitor the situation in line with Government regulations.

The first-placed Dogs are due to face second-placed Demons on Friday night at Marvel Stadium in a clash that would likely have attracted one of the biggest crowds of the season at the Docklands venue this year.

I’d say it’s a pretty big 48 hours. If no more cases come forward it’ll be business as usual. If there are a few it might be let the players in under strict conditions, but keep the borders closed.

I’d say the AFL have likely ordered everyone home already while they wait for news, so if the shit hits the fan they can say their players have been isolating at home.

4 new cases have been found so total is up to 9. Empty stadiums coming for sure. What a bummer.

Good news is that the latest 4 are family contacts of the originals. So that might help.

I’d assume that:

1. Other states will shut boarders pretty quickly if there are many more cases tomorrow. This will put some of the travelling teams/matches in the next fortnight at risk.
2. Melb may just spot lock down an area if much more infections show up...
3. We prob need 0 cases tomorrow to have a chance of it not impacting crowds.

As a Brisbane-ite, we lock down the city so quickly! Hopefully Melbourne make the right call and if it means one round without fans, that’s it... but we don’t want a blow out again!

The reality is that Melbournians and Melbourne businesses are about to potentially embark on a 4th lockdown in just over 12 months, while most other jurisdictions in Australia have essentially been living normal lives free of lockdown and restrictions in almost the last 12 months. The familiar feelings of dread and desolation in this once great city are palpable today - I just feel so sorry for everyone who lives in Melbourne and those who have been crushed trying to run a small business here.

Good post Sedat. Hope your well mate. I know you are in the north. BAD is right in that the did stuff up on the SA quarantine. NSW seem to have the gold standard with contact tracing. Need to take a leaf out of their book.
