Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction

I tend to avoid the talking heads/ politicians in these circumstances. Here's an article discussing the most recent situation:

Medical experts explain how much quarantine breaches, cold weather and pure chance contribute to the spread of coronavirus cases in Melbourne
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Me either, I don't have any leaning in that regard. I've worked in the Science space for over 20 years and know some very intelligent humans.
We have to realise this isn't a static playing field, the goal posts are shifting this virus is mutating at a rapid rate.

The serial interval (rate of spread) for this variant is ridiculous. One day? Compared to 2-6 or something for others.
So you get it you're infectious after 1 day. No system can cope well with that no matter how loudly we spruik our precious metal standards.

Edit : says that in article (SI) . That's a really good breakdown.

So what’s the criteria for re-opening on Friday?
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Victorian contact tracing in 2020 was a massive failure.

It has been performing fine the last 3 mini outbreaks.

I don't think there's a defined criteria, and I'm not sure there can be when it moves so quickly and changes so rapidly, there are so many variables to consider.
Its literally day to day as the data comes in.
I hope all business can get the support they need, I've been ordering take out from my locals since it started. The scales may need re calibration soon

Pandemics just suck right? We just need everyone to comply and work together and we will get out as quickly as the virus lets us.

As with everything else to do with Covid there are no defined rules for going into or exiting lockdown.

I'd be highly surprised if it's prior to the Queen's Birthday Weekend.

Yes, now it's in aged care I would suggest a full two week cycle would be on the cards.

It really shouldnt last that long. 4,5 & 5 in the last 3 days and the lockdown #s arent even represented yet.

I'm still hopeful of a staggered release on Friday.

Edit: yeah that aged care is a problem and may increase it

Contact tracing is only as good as the people complying with checking in.

Last week the contact traces tracked down 15000 people in just a day or so. They have done a huge job.
                      But that is an issue.

In Adelaide I wasn't permitted into the supermarket without checking in.

The contract tracers are doing exceptionally well, but it would be easier if the check in at every location was enforced.

Why is it that only Victoria have this issue?

The Indian variant takes hold quickly, so hopefully all those that were going to be infected are infected.

Best case will be open Friday, but I think with some restrictions still in place, like masks.

Worst case I don't even want to think about it.

NSW doesn't either. WA and SA do. Not sure about others.

Personally I check in everywhere. It takes two seconds.

Having said that my 83 year old Mum, wouldn't be able to.
She doesn't have a smart phone. (it's the only place she goes).

I agree with you, but this is a people issue.

                                People have been complacent.

eg: I went on a 5 day break at the RACV Cape Schanck resort early in May. When we had to enter the restaurant at breakfast or anytime, we had to check in with QR code. On the last two days there were two conferences happening. My wife and I noted the conference people, in large groups, just strolled in, didn't check in, and just sat down in their allocated area. We complained to the staff, but they just said they were overwhelmed with the numbers.

Unless businesses put in security guards at every venue and staff are vigilant, you will get non conformist.
