I'd say it's 70/30? I don't get why people don't just get tested, it's quick and painless albeit mildly uncomfortable
    People suck.

Honestly, between pushing everyone to return to the office and having to ride a train that's full of people, we've learnt absolutely nothing from this pandemic that should have brought about a shift in thinking. As soon as we got some respite, everyone was back shaking hands and demanding that everyone return to offices. Trains were full of people not wearing masks and coughing openly. People coming to work sick saying "I know it's just a cold". Just as bad as the pre-covid attitude of coming into work sick as a dog to prove your "toughness". Utter BS.

Aged Care workers are in private industry and under the control of Feds.
Health response to the pandemic is individual state jurisdiction - there are privately run aged care facilities outside of Victoria you know. Nitpicking fed v state performance simply doesn't pass the sniff test when only one jurisdiction in Australia has had almost 200 days of lockdowns and others have barely hit 50 days yet, even though some other jurisdictions have had to deal with outbreaks larger than the current one in Victoria. Outbreaks will happen - it is how each state manages contact tracing and the spread of the outbreak that matters. We are still struggling to do so here unfortunately.

Crikey. I spent a good part of two years in with my Dad in a memory care unit. Two staff on at night dealing with 30 + patients with extreme needs.
They are the best people the nurses, the on the ground people.
As for the administrators, best to say nothing. I understand the system we live in, and business needs to be profitable but it's just so skewed the wrong way.

Sorry won't derail this any further.

Apologies, it might be ~$10 per day, I think the number I mentioned was for meals (but I can't find a reference after a quick look - so possibly disregard any nonsense I post on the topic!).

Either way we have a long way to go as it's simply insufficient to provide adequate care and it's not a partisan or political issue, it's a societal/ economic issue. We need to acknowledge it's not enough, it can be much better, and that we can afford it.
          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

But they are private facilities, Governments can't tell them where they can work?

                    It's a fed mandate apparently:

Late last year, the Morrison government returned to allowing staff in the private sector to work across multiple sites. The latest Victorian outbreak prompted Canberra to reinstate the rules preventing it.

Plenty of reports circulating that some homes were at best marginal and in danger of closing.

There are good and bad like any industry which depends on how they are run.

There are of course those that rip off their residents.

                          and then there are these:

I got my jab this morning. Did a walk in scenario at Sunshine Hospital. Tips for others thinking of this :

                            - It's a long wait. (8.30-11.30 for me)
                            - You queue for long parts outside, so don't do what I did and wear pants (not shorts). Think footy gear.
                            - Take coffee.
                            - Have your license/medicare card and your phone to check in to their site.
                            - Be nice to the staff they cop enough from the idiots. 99 percent of people were amazing.

I got the first dose of the Pfizer, after effects minimal bit of tiredness, mild sore arm and bit of a croaky throat so far. Nothing major.
