Could the AFL introduce a penalty system for players braking a contract. Something like a swapping of cap space, the club that get the player breaking a contract gets a reduction in cap and the club loosing the contracted player get the increase. This maybe hard to do fairly but would it limit clubs with tight cap room from chasing contracted players.
The AFL is has created it's own problem with the expansion of the completion and a thinning of the talent pool.

I like the proposal where players not picked up through the drafts costs more towards the salary cap, say a 10% loading. This means clubs can afford to pay talent they have developed more.

It's clear that they have assessed the draft and they don't think they can do better from pick 15. It probably fits in with their top up approach of lake with the added advantage of still having an eye on the future. It's a bit like a 50/50 position from my perspective.

Plowman and Phillips likely to move from GWS to Carlton.

Makes sense. Those two can't command a regular spot in a middle of the ladder team, so they should slot straight in at Carlton

He's probably a great young guy but he knew what he was signing up for when he entered the AFL and he should be able to see out his contract.

I don't say this dismissively, but if he is genuinely homesick he could quit his job and head home and play in the WAFL.

Cam just wants out of GWS. It's the Claytons Club in that its the team you play for without playing for a team. Stupid francise is going to take 50 years to get off the ground.

If I was a young afl lover, I would HATE to be drafted by GWS.

Awful jumper, no fans, no history.
It's not what you would have been picturing your whole life growing up.

Depends on your priorities. If you wanted to go about your footy business with a minimum of fuss and like living in a fantastic college-style environment on the Sydney Harbour with a bunch of similar aged guys, it would hold plenty of appeal. They haven't lost anywhere near as many players as most of the industry expected them to - they've done far more right with their set-up than the Suns have done.

He has already signed an extension to the original, so the homesickness was not a factor in that earlier in the year. His original contract from the draft would have expired now.

Cam McCarthy is pleading with Greater Western Sydney to grant him a trade home to be closer to family and friends.He denied his request was financially motivated despite what is understood to be a lucrative offer from Fremantle.
“It just feels right and it feels like the right thing to do,” he said.
“I love all the boys at GWS and they’ve been great and stuff like that, but living in western Sydney I don’t think is for me.
“I don’t really get to come home much, all the Melbourne boys get to fly back every time there’s a weekend off, but I haven’t really had the opportunity because Perth is so far away.
“I’ve got two younger sisters and you don’t really see them grow up as much in a way.
“I don’t want to miss too much of that because they’re pretty important to me.”

North Melbourne is making a late pitch for James Aish. The Kangas want Aish to consider Arden St and would use Ryan Bastinac in a trade.
