    Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023

A little interaction I had with Oliver.

I attended the 2017 Brownlow medal. I sat on the table next to Clayton Oliver. He was only a few metres away from me. He was 20 at the time. When he arrived he looked as immaculate as one can be with the limited looks he was blessed with.

However, as the night went on, he just disingerated. Jacket off. Tie off. Shirt untucked. Shirt unbuttoned. His pale white skin first went a light pink and then a deep red. His behaviour also got looser and looser as the night progressed. A few hours in I was deeply embarrassed for him and also suprised that no one from Mebourne had a word to him or pulled him up. He definiltey drank way too much and didn't handle it too well.

At the time I thought, here is just a young kid from the country, a lad having a good time. But if you have the type of relationship with alcohol he displayed that night and you don't get it under control it normally is the sign of trouble to come. It is not like he was out at a pub with his mates, he was on display in front of the entire football community.

I have heard some things he got up to while he was off injured - not good

Would we be interested in Payne or is he more your Gardner type.
        From Jon Ralph
Adelaide has serious reservations about his capacity to play at his best after his second knee reco. So a great result to be somewhere that values him, and the Crows will hope at best to get a second-round compo pick for the 26-year-old.

I'm one. Very happy to own this opinion.

We crashed after our amazing premiership (GVGjr was all over this while the rest of us including those at the club were drunk throughout the summer of 2016-17), and we then did a mini-rebuild in 2018 with a view to contending from 2021 onward. Credit to the club, as we were tracking along really well in accordance with that timeline of expectation, until the 20 min mark of the 3rd qtr of the 2021 GF.

Since then we conceded 16.4.100 to 1.1.7 in barely 40 minutes of the most diabolical footy we've ever played in our history, then amazingly we didn't even bother to forensically look at what the hell caused that car crash (which IMO has scarred many of the current playing group, probably the coaches as well). We then spent the next 2 years going 8th (again conceding a massive run-on when dominating in a final) and then missing finals altogether despite career years from our ruck, captain and best inside mid - we've had very few genuine injuries in those disastrous 2 years to our core best 6-8, and we have consistently lost the same way as the 2021 GF in that time (dominating field position/metrics but conceding huge momentum shifts and consecutive goals from oppo, with a complete inability to wrest momentum back when it is lost). Meanwhile at least half a dozen clubs have shot right past us in that time.

Our solution to this has been to barely tinker around the edges both in personnel and game plan. We've low-balled our footy dept spending while others significantly beefed up their internal resources. Bloody hell, even the stubborn dinosaurs at Corio significantly changed their game-plan last year en route to a flag.

We announced to the world that we conducted a thorough internal review 12 months ago, then we arrogantly didn't bother releasing the findings to the fans and general public other than to get ourselves a name senior assistant (Lade). When we do even worse in 2023, our response is to announce to the world (even louder this time) that we will conduct a thorough internal review, seemingly with the goal of getting ourselves a name senior assistant.

All of the above is why I currently don't believe we are a serious organisation. We have this off-season to get serious about making drastic changes to all elements of our on-field operation in order to give us the best possible opportunity at real and sustained success (nothing is guaranteed of course). We have been abject failures for 2 years and 40 minutes (especially in line with our own internal expectations) and everybody from the top of the organisation down needs to have laser focus on working every single day to change the direction of the club - the jury is well and truly out on all of our leaders and their ability to do the work absolutely necessary to get us back on track as a club.

It's not a time for rose-coloured glasses. You invariably get what you deserve in life, and we've gotten it in spades in the last 2 years and 40 minutes. What are we going to do to change this?

So based on all that you don't think we are a serious club, because that is what you are saying.

Yes. A supplier to the business I was working with was a major sponsor of SEN. I was part of the SEN team, so bascially guests of Hutchy. Hutchy is definiltey a pro in that type of enviroment. Had done his homework on every guest, knew your name, knew the story of your company and how you you fitted in.

Our "tickets" included accomodation at Crown and also access to the after party. So we got the full experience including the walk down the red carpet.

Lots of funny insights on the night seeing footballers with their guards down. One moment that sticks out, that at the after party on the balcony, we ran into Roberty Murphy who was smoking. My wife who thought Robery Murphy was basically God at the time was shattered. Some times you really should not meet your heroes.

Don't forget letting Ego get in the way and letting Simon Dalrymple walk out the door after the 2017 season. Might also explain our lack of dare in latter rounds and rookie draft.

What is the backstory behind the Dalrymple exit?

My understanding is that he and J.McCartney did not get along but McCartney left.

I also heard that Dalrymple felt he didn't get enough credit for our 2016 success and the last straw was when the coach made a captains call and selected Billy Gowers.

I'm not sure if he put his hand up for Sam Powers job and didn't get it. Someone else maybe able to shed light on that.

Supposedly a bit of a power struggle over who the last player on the list would be. Bevo wanted Gowers, got his way and that was the final straw.
