I've previously mentioned in this thread that players don't have many imperatives to ensure their career doesn't get cancelled for them. One of them is ensuring what goes into their bodies is recorded, and legal.

They failed miserably on this front, and whilst I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt as far as intent was concerned, wilful ignorance is no defence in the first instance, and withholding information from investigative teams wilfully is deplorable and they won't be receiving my sympathy.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

But, hang on - 'Dr' Danks had evidence that would clear the players. And Hird has assured everyone that when everything was finally revealed, he and his club would be seen in a very favourable light? Didn't this all come out, finally??

My initial reaction was pity for the players and anger and contempt for their supremely arrogant and callous employer. Having read in particular the great analysis by law student Chris Kais, it's hard to escape the conclusion that the players also bear blame and justice has been done. Do we really want young men injected with substances that Dank heard had been successful on race horses? Do we really want to look sceptically at every 'super human' achievement and result in our sport? How will everyone feel if one of the players develops a rare illness?

The only thing I regret is that there wasn't scope for a team suspension. We will miss Crameri but the right result has finally taken place.

It's fair to say that the adults have got involved here.

34 players sue and get at least a million dollars each in compo against Essendon on average.

Who pays the $34,000,000? They become insolvent and wind up as a club, or the AFL loans or gives them the cash. The cynic in me thinks the AFL would stump them up the cash.

In the press conference they said they had insurance to cover law suits should they arise.

Insurance that covers wilful negligence or recklessness over acts a reasonable person would know we're against various laws. I could foresee that an insurance company might not want to pay out.

Don't worry they have strong legal advice they can take their insurance company to court and win if they refuse to pay

Is 'strong legal advice' some sort of Latin for 'Tania Hird says so'?

Yep. James thought he was well insured too.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

The AFL will bail EFC out, wait nine years to purchase Docklands for one dollar - and sell the land off for a significant amount.

They will then engage the Victorian and Federal Governments, as well as a third party to instigate a private public partnership to build a new stadium close by, at which EFC will be the key tenant and receive the best stadium deal of all tenants forced to move there.

Our club, alongside others forced to move there (excluding Carlton who will have been propped up by the AFL over a nine year period to the point they are a power again, and Geelong who will play home games at Geelong full time) will subsidise the high quality stadium deals afforded to others by having to pay significantly more for stadium usage on a per head basis (competition average) as we currently do at Docklands.

We will then be continually chastised by the more "deserving" clubs over our perennial need for handouts.

Mark my words, this or something very similar will happen.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

AFL CEO says if they finish last they keep pick 1. So that's good news. And if good players want trading for a 'fresh start', they could have a very good draft again. Yeah AFL and Essendon.

Personally, our friendly lawyers around town should be arguing for Essendon players to claim breach of contract and get free agency status. I could take getting Hurley, Heppell or Hooker as a free agent.

It was basically Slobo's signature in every Essendon article for 2 years. I'm assuming he was just regurgitating what his cult leader was telling him. You'll note Hird lost virtually every case he put forward.

Bomber Thompson is another who it will be interesting to hear from. He repeatedly claimed to have a lot to say but couldn't due to being gagged through the process. He's got a lot to answer for also.

I think every case he prosecuted after other parties had quit or he pursued individually he lost. Must be the high quality legal advice he was getting.

The most baffling and stupid thing about this whole team sport versus individual sport argument when it comes to the WADA Code and it being applicable to the AFL is the belief being a member of a team mitigates responsibility over what is ingested by a player.

What happens when one international rower or bob-sled sliding McGee who is part of a winning relay team tests positives to banned substances, in a team environment where it's likely they've always been training as a team and managed by the same auxiliary coaches and medical teams throughout an entire event preparation?
