Dad Matthew Croft was recruited by us as a forward before switching to the backline. He also played forward for us too kicking 72 goals in his career. Hopefully Jordan can play both ends too.

      Re: Father/Son Watch

Given Gold Coast have 3 x highly rated academy kids this year, they are the obvious target to trade up with our two picks, giving them a points surplus and getting us ahead of any Croft bid. We could even trade out a future pick or two, then try to trade back into the second round to pick up a slider.

IIRC he played his first two games on the wing too

Jordan on one side and Rory Lobb on the other, we revolutionise the game again.

Wonder whether Brisbane with Jasper Fletcher in mind bid early on Crofty?

Four teams do not own a first-round pick heading into the 2023 season: Fremantle (traded for Luke Jackson), Brisbane (for Josh Dunkley), Richmond (for Jacob Hopper) and Port Adelaide (for Jason Horne-Francis).

So...they can if they like...but they're gonna have to trade up to get a pick in order to do that...and I'm pretty sure they cant use their 2024 picks to trade up so....

If they?re first to bid great! From memory their first chance will be the GWS 2nd rounder (say mid 20?s). After we give them back their second rounder for Lohmann, then we can use a bunch of late picks. So I hope the first bid is from Brisbane.

From today's paper. From "Shifter" Sheehan. The top 30 draft prospects.

                JORDAN CROFT
                Calder Cannons/Maribyrnong Park FS/Maribyrnong SC
Date of Birth 12/05/05; Height 200cm; Weight 80kg
NAB League Average Ranking Points: 120 points (4 games)

A tall forward who is lightly-built but extremely athletic, Croft uses his mobility and height to create opportunities as a marking forward. He only fully focused on a potential AFL career last year after pursuing volleyball as his sport, before showing immediate potential for the Cannons. Croft provided a glimpse of his capabilities in a recent Coates Talent League match against the Northern Territory, where he kicked five goals from his 12 disposals and 2 marks. He followed up that performance with four goals for Victoria Metro against the Young Guns in a challenge match, with his speed and precise kicking being features of his game. He is eligible to join the Western Bulldogs under father-son rules given he is the son of former AFL star Matthew Croft, who played 186 games for the club.

What’s his rating in the top 30 ?
Seems extremely early to put him in the top 30 after so little games.

Sheehan never actually really assigns a specific rating to a player but perhaps he does with the standouts but he normally groups the better players into a broader rating.

I don't think it's strange for him to do that.

Umm - he's a 200cm tall forward with a Dad who played AFL footy and it sounds like elite attributes.

Remember the old adage - when they have been playing footy....look back to see where they've come from. When they're new to the sport, you have to 'look forward' and project.

He's projecting as Joe Daniher mate.

This is why I don't understand why there's a feeling that he will be bid on in the late teens/20s. Someone with those attributes and the form he has been showing is more like a top 10 selection.

                          Yep.

I'm thinking the same. If he kicks goals in the champs (and I suspect he will) then look out...

We have to take him right? I mean what choice do we have.

Although we might have to nail a good mid with a shit pick soon!

You take him in the draft and then trade out Naughts or English next year for a quality mid. Sweet goes to the ruck. Darcy developing with Buss and Croft.
