Re: Father/Son Watch
Then use 22 & 34 equal to about Pick 5 or 6 to secure Croft.
Get a former #1, #20 and Croft in the top 10-15. All in the right age profile for a rebuild.
It’s not that bad a problem to solve.
Doesn’t need to be these specific players, but trading them out for high end quality and points back.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Father/Son Watch
So to ease some worry:
A) Trade ahead of the Croft bid, through GCS
B) Just burn through our natural first with the discount, use the second First Rounder
C) Trade for top end talent and later picks with both first rounders, to secure Croft and traded young guns
D) Do a combo, and live trade future picks, to get back in top end this year
E) A/some players leave for ok pick/s and we get active in points trading
F) Find mutual high needs points trading partners and help each other out with mutually beneficial points trades - GCS for this year, Brisbane for next
G) Smart live trading
It?s really not a bad problem to have.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Father/Son Watch
Exactly. We can deal with Croft going top 5 when he’s clearly going top 5. But I’d bet GCS pick gets us ahead and then we walk out with two top 10-15 kids and hopefully Lohmann too. That’s a very good start to improving the list.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

By all accounts, Hawks are going the hardest at him though and have truckloads of cap to spend.
Our record with third rounders is pretty good though - Dale and Williams and CD some of our better players this yearWestern Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Would need to see the fine print. Interesting but potentially dangerous too.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Father/Son Watch
I do worry about that '6th forward' spot - McNeill and Garcia may not be the answer, and Lohmann solves the problem of shoe-horning a small former mid into the role.

Re: Father/Son Watch
Where do you think Croft will be taken V our draft position points wise. I fear our picks will be chewed up and we will only have a late second rounder onwards to play with.
IMO we can?t afford to sit out another draft we just don?t have the young talent coming through for that scenario
Typically tall skinny forwards don't get taken earlier in drafts and particularly strong drafts like this years should be.
I see him as a Todd Marshall type and therefore to me he is more of a late first round pick than a top 10 pick.
I see this as an easy option to get ahead of that range of a potential pick and then chew up multiple later selections to cover when the bid comes.
I researched some of the recent drafts to come to that conclusion. To me he's not in the same league as the likes of Max/Ben King or Sam Darcy/Jamarra Ugle-Hagan so a bid will come somewhere around pick 15.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

He's not even the best 'off-limits' KPF in this years' draft (Jed Walter tied to the Suns just carved it up in the Allies vs SA game)Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: Father/Son Watch
Why? Our key defenders outside Gardner are ancient. Key position players generally take longer to get up to speed than midfielders too. Assuming Busslinger becomes a player I feel it was a well timed selection that should bear fruit in another year or 2 (or 3).
We definitely need to get some more talented midfielders to the club though, hopefully starting at this years draft.Comment
