I have little sympathy after the way he dicked us around. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: BT's very, very, very, very early list management thread 2019-2020
So I think we should pursue Port Adelaide fairly strongly for a draft points trade. They have pick 27 and their F/S Mead will go much higher.
We have picks 41 & 46 locked in from St Kilda & Hawthorn.
But that's not enough points for viable pick swap alone (just 30 points or so). So I'd add in our natural 3rd rounder, and a future fourth rounder. So all the third rounders go to Port. We get back Picks 27 & 61, and a future third rounder.
For us: (say worst case, we lose week one)
2019: Picks 12, 27, 30, 61 & 84
2020: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd Port, 5th
Essentially we use our cluster of thirds to move into the top 30 this year, while starting to stockpile draft picks/better draft picks for all our priority access talent next year. Serves us well this year and next, so I quite like it.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Good job, BT. That'd suit us nicely.
Do you know what GC's 2nd round pick is?Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

They don't have one, or their natural third. They have Brisbane's first, say pick 16, and then nothing before Richmond's 3rd, around pick 50. So, yep, 18th has two picks inside 50 right now at the draft. They almost need players to request trades out to get into the draft.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Perhaps 12 for Martin & GC's 2020 2nd rounder?
Now if we win the whole thing....18 (or likely 19 after GC get a PP) for Martin seems more on point. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Then we have points for next year, and picks 27 & 30, Williams & the future first trade down potentially on the trade table to secure the players we want to pay $1.7M or so towards.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Intrigued by Ben Sokol. Still putting up crazy numbers as a WAFL forward, haven't seen him play though. 186cm medium forward, 23 years old. His last month reads:
Rd 17:
7 goals, 13 marks
Rd 18:
6 goals, 12 marks
Rd 19:
6 goals, 11 marks
Rd 20:
6 goals, 13 marks
Given our stated desire to 'get more mature' I wouldn't be surprised if he's the type on our radar if we miss out on our trade targets.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

That would leave us with two teen picks and Bailey Williams to try and get a KPD, small forward and outside run with class:
As an example only (if other players come up, things just get shuffled), on the media linked player names:
Outside - Martin - 1st rounder (3rd rounder next year back)
Sm. Fwd - Tippa - 1st rounder (pick 47 back)
KPD - Keath - Bailey Williams & pick 47
(Or Tomlinson as a free agent)
2019 Picks - 61, 80+ & upgrade Lachie Young (just the two live picks - this year focus is experienced talent, next year young talent)
2020 Picks - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd GCS, 3rd Port, 5th (Up to 3,000 draft points needed - guessing finishes gives us well over 3,000 points and thereby by avoiding deficit in 2021 and get all of our priority access players)
Ins: 3 traded mature role players, one rookie upgrade, two draft picks (6)
Outs: Boyd, Picken, Williams, Roberts, Webb & Morris (6) (Roarke Smith & Gardner to go off the rookie list - So 2 rookie draft picks)
No free agents, or delisted free agents unless Dickson retires. As Dickson has to be the seventh player (math) for a spot to open up unless there's other trades out or someone retires early.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Every player retires at some point. I love everything he’s given our club, but 3 ACL injuries in 17 months and 38 next year with most of the year out. His time is now, like Tuck or Boomer they’d play forever if they could, I hope he calls time on a stunning career.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Near on 150 over three years.
As I said I haven't seen him play so I'm not sure to the eyeball he can translate that to AFL football but we took Gowers on one year of exposed form as a forward (he played defence when he was a Carlton rookie).Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
