Plus, his personality goes right to the bone - there is nothing skin deep about the hair cut and ridiculous shades...it's all him.

He's a terrific talent and senior football ready with his strength and 2nd effort traits. He's better than where a lot of the phantom drafts have him falling. He also tested well at the combine.

LOL. Have Shifter and Twomey watched LESS football per minute spent at a footy game than any other two people in the history of the universe?

To be fair, they would have talked to a lot of people who all told them these guys were good.

Speaking of Twoomey appparently he's said Dogs won't be drafting Curtin if available. So I guess we value Watson and Sanders higher

I suspect that opinion was more about the taller players we already have and given we are bringing in Croft.
North should pick Curtin at pick 4 but I'm not sure they will.

                Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Without considering club needs and draft positioning etc this is how I rate the top 20 players

                1 - Jed Walter
                2 - Harley Reid
                3 - Colby McKercher
                4 - Daniel Curtin
                5 - Zane Duursma
                6 - Ryley Sanders
                7 - Nate Caddy
                8 - Ethan Read
                9 - Nick Watson
                10 - Caleb Windsor
                11 - Jake Rogers
                12 - Koltyn Tholstrup
                13 - Connor O'Sullivan
                14 - Darcy Wilson
                15 - James Leake
                16 - Jordan Croft
                17 - Riley Hardeman
                18 - Ollie Murphy
                19 - Harry DeMattia
                20 - Lance Collard

Walter before Reid might be the contentious pick but the question for me is if Reid's strengths in the junior comp will transition that well in the senior level.

Sounds like another Fyfe and we know how good he is.
Country boy where football isn’t his life but will take it because it’s available any anything he does is 100%
                  Home factor a problem maybe.

Did he say why? It could all come down to the "go home" factor at a time we're trying to tie down our list.

Jesse Hogan with a very good defensive side to his game is what I saw when he played. Gun already and one of those rare KPFs that should play early

I think the inference made was more about the structure of how many taller players we already have and the fact that we are also bringing in Croft.

Sure there would be some players with a higher go home factor but that's why clubs do multiple interviews and screening. Once players feel at home at a club they shouldn't feel the need to head home.

The way Reid has been talked up as a generational player just seems a bit over the top. Walter is a big dynamic forward who should be able to kick goals.

Thanks for that list G. Always interesting to trawl back through these things in 5+ years time and see how many you got right and how many were stinkers. It seems quite a lot of consistency across the first 9/10 selections this year and then a tad more variation post that.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

WA boys - my draft order.

1/. Tholstrup. Plays footy 'like a man'. Inside outside game, strong overhead, hyper-competitive.
2/. Curtin. Tall, runs, marks it well. Kicks it ok (left footer). Versatile. What's not to like??
3/. Mitch Edwards. He's a monster and he WILL compete hard. Tried to carry his footy team this year...leadership through effort - just what you want in a ruck.
4/. Xavier Walsh. Big, strong and aggressive. 100% a brilliant kick of the footy...when he gets it he either hits a target or kicks a goal. Criminally under-rated - getting injured then suspended then concussed was hardly his fault.
5/. Ryley Hardeman. A runner. Has real 120m plus efforts in his game. I think he is a bit shaky by foot but good become a genuine a-grader.
6/. Koen Sanchez. What is he? That's the question...'CLEVER' is the answer. Can he become a genuine ball winner? If he does he could be top tier.
7/. Aiden O'Driscoll. Without doubt the fastest I have ever coached. Faster than Bobby Hill. He is electric. Didn't have the year he should of in 2023 but showed some great signs on grand final day.
8/. Clay Hall. He's BIG. He is just that prototypical BIG mid...played some good senior footy this year (along with a few others in this list - Hardeman, Tholstrup, Curtin). I worry he's not clean enough but think he'll get there.
9/. Ashton Ferrera. He's small...but he can RUN. Won promotion to the seniors late in the season and immediately started getting 25+ touches per week as an outside mid...that's not NUTHIN! Sure, his team was battling but I don't get the lack of love.
10/. Lance Collard. I have no idea what to do here. He could be anything or nothing. I don't like the risk reward of him early in the draft...once they start calling the rookies, well...that's when I would call his name.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.
