Is VDM agile enough to be a lockdown player? He's definitely quick in a straight line, but I don't think he's particularly agile.Comment

We lost what 4 or 5 by less than a goal, plus Pies by 2. In those games, we were torched by small forwards kicking 4 to 5 bags.

And stronger clubs like Collingwood and Melbourne have gone hard at adding more bite to their small forward options. It's something we need to address.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
Very impressed with what Sam Power and his team achieved during this trade period.
Trades
I've warmed to the Harmes trade and if we play him to his strengths he should add a bit to the midfield. Coffied's versatility and his age profile fits in nicely with some of the strengths and weaknesses of our back line. Getting involved in a complicated multi team deal and effectively adding Coffield for a future 4th rounder was a nice get.
Draft Picks
Losing a future 1st rounder hurts no doubt but our positioning to get ahead of a Jordan Croft bid will land us one of this years best players. Duursma or Watson would be welcomed into our forward set-up, McKercher or Sanders into the midfield and Curtin can play in a variety of positions so they all fit our needs.
We've positioned ourselves nicely to match a bid for Croft and we have the currency to pick-up Lual if he goes past pick 40 due to the way we worked with other clubs and it appears it was in a very planned and prescribed manner.
Increasing our points throughout the trade period was a particularly impressive achievement.
Delisted Players
There is still a bit to play out here but I hope we are open to cutting into the playing list and adding one or two needs based players especially a back-up ruckman.
We didn't have a strong hand going into this trade period and our focus on landing Croft meant we couldn't be big players in an trade deals or bringing in players via free agency given we have some huge contacts to cover in the next 12 months.
Based on all those considerations we should feel like the club achieved many of their objectives going into the trade period.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Name escapes me.

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
If, which it seems, part of what we tried to do over trade period was improve the depth in the players picket 16-22 each week, I think we did that OK. I'd actually like us to get another couple of players in that would help that depth if we're going to delist a couple more.Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
At least missing targets in the forward 50 isn't as damaging as doing it in the back half!
Also if he doesn't like playing high half forward, rolling into the midfield he's probably not going to take being put back very well.Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
This is the dilemma right. If we don’t play him where he wants he’s as good as traded out. But he needs to demand a spot on form. I don’t think if his form as a kid is down and he’s given another role he will accept that. I’m really uncertain how 2024 pans out for him and us.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
He best was playing mid field against Cripps/ Carlton. I think 36 possies. We know he has it in him. Let us give him the opportunity to see if he can play like that on a regular basis. If he succeeds we are playing finals. This is the dilemma right. If we don’t play him where he wants he’s as good as traded out. But he needs to demand a spot on form. I'm not advocating for this move but as a comparison Boyd was frequently bagged out for his kicking inside 50 for years and then was practically surgical once moved to defence.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

This from Code sports
Western Bulldogs
IN: James Harmes (Melbourne), Nick Coffield (St Kilda)
OUT: Jordon Sweet (Port Adelaide)
PICKS: 5, 48, 52, 53, 56, 69, 72, 75
The Bulldogs’ 2026 backbone should be filled exclusively with first-round picks –Tim English (207cm), Sam Darcy (205cm), Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (197cm), Aaron Naughton (195cm), Jedd Busslinger (196cm) and Jordan Croft (200cm). Has the AFL ever seen a spine saturated with so much elite talent? Dogs list boss Sam Power declared there would be room for all of them in the same side due to their differing attributes, and the baton change will be well-timed if Darcy, Croft and Busslinger emerge as Liam Jones, Alex Keath and Rory Lobb wind down. The Dogs were delighted to add a defensive midfielder in Harmes and a versatile defender in Coffield, who placed fifth in St Kilda’s 2020 best-and-fairest before he was ambushed by injury. The trade of picks with Gold Coast will turn tangible when the Dogs deliver a one-two draft punch – bringing in potentially Nick Watson at No.5 and matching a father-son bid on Croft in the first round. Does English require an understudy to substitute for Sweet? Premiership ruckman Scott Lycett is pondering whether to retire or play on as that stop-gap solution.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment
