GWS really wants 5 and 6 apparently - they will probably only use a max of 4 picks in the draft this year because of the pressure on their list numbers and they want those picks to be as low as possible. 5 and 6 effectively become 4 and 5 if Gold Coast nominates Viney at 2:00pm today.

That's a bit of a stretch. If Viney was available at pick 6, sounds like most clubs would pick him.
The bargain is there for Melbourne getting him 2nd round if GC don't nominate him at 3.

I'd love the picks 5 & 6 for Martin, Hogan and Anderson to happen but it seems like its too good to be true.

I have not heard all 3 players being mentioned for picks 5 & 6, thats definately not going to happen.

The more I think about the potential offer of Martin, Anderson and pick 9 for picks 5 and 6 I just think it's very generous in out favor.

If we can get it done it done or something close to it then it would be a great trade.

I just think that it will end up being Martin and pick 9 for picks 5 and 6 which would be pretty fair anyway.

I tend to think that without Anderson the deal isn't as fair

As talented as people say Martin is, we have to remember that Josh Toy was hailed in a similar manner as a 17 year old, and both Martin and Anderson are very lightly built

If GWS dont want Anderson, which is possible, given he's already walked out on them, then trade him

My view is that unless we get a pre-listed player as well that we've identified then the deal is only so-so for us, and it does depend on what we turn pick 9 into

I agree. I have to admit that all the machinations of this are beyond me, but if this is the final outcome it seems like an outstanding result.

I think that 5 & 6 for Martin, Anderson and 9 is definitely on by what Emma Quayle is saying. The other possibility is 5 and 6 for MD1, MD2 and Anderson.

Its not uneven if you break it down. If Martin was available this year, he would go 2-5 after Whitfield but in the same bracket as Toumpas, Viney, Grundy, O'Rourke. If we put Martin in next years draft, he is currently 4th after Boyd, Aish, McDonald. So let's average it out and say Martin is worth pick 4. I'll take your word for it that Anderson is worth 15 but I think that's a bit generous. So in summary:

OUT: 5, 6
IN: 4, 9, 15.

Sounds about right but it all depends on 2 things:
How you rate Anderson;
Whether McCartney/Dalrymple expect the player they want at 6 will still be there at 9.

I'd also like to know why you have him as 4th best for next year? McDonald is the pick of those 3, but is also a father son for North Melbourne. Aish needs to win more hard ball before I'd even consider him over Martin. While even Hogan had a better champs series then Boyd.

I still think that's a pretty generous deal.

5 and 6 effectively become 4 and 5 because Viney is really only available to Gold Coast or Melbourne. I'm talking about "live" picks. For 16 clubs Viney is absolutely no chance to go to them, so really isn't a "live" selection.

If Viney is not nominated by Gold Coast, then 4 top quality players will be taken by GWS with pick 1, GC with pick 2 and Melb with picks 3 and 4 before our picks 5 and 6. Our picks 5 and 6 really are only valued as 5 and 6.

If Gold Coast nominated Viney today, either Gold Coast (with pick 2) or Melbourne (with pick 3) must take Viney. In this situation there will only be 3 top quality players taken before our two picks. Our picks are much more valuable if Gold Coast nominates Viney.

We will have by far the best bid for MD1, unless Melbourne bids with pick 4 (unlikely, as they probably want Hogan rather than Martin and seem hell-bent on obtaining more mature players and may not want to burn a high pick on a kid who can't play until 2014.)
