Just saw the Pixies have announced they are touring next year in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Doolittle. Sure it's $90 and it's at Festival Hall but it was pretty special last time (despite my general dislike of superannuation tours) so I think I'll go.

Pretty good show, gesz the lead singer gone fat!!!!
Dave Wyndorf really bloated once he got over his sleeping pill addiction.

FWIW It's actually a really good venue - slightly quieter than most, but the PA sounded top notch, for anyone not dead centre up the front (ie almost everyone except me) there was plenty of leveled floor to see the band.

$90 is fairly reasonable these days. The only time I really wanted toi see a band but baulked at the price was Motorhead at the Forum for $160.
I really wanted to go but still think it would have been too much to see just one band (plus a single support act).

Dragged out (via slab in a St Kilda car park with topless rockstar wannabees and their strangely attractive GFs getting completely sand-blasted in the stupid wind) to see Mammoth Mammoth with support from Crash Arcadia, Sixshooter and Electric Mary headlining. They played at stupid shit Espy which is painful because this craphole used to be a great venue.

Having seen only Mammoth before, somehow made it for the first band (FWIW whilst trying to avoid a couple of batshit-insane people I knew in the crowd which worked out horribly by the end of the night). Reviews in chronological order are below:

Crash Arcadia - Shitful. Utterly crap. I have never wanted to stab an eyeball so badly. They sounded like an Emo band doing Creed or Nickelback covers. If that sounds bad, believe me when I tell you the result is worse than you think. The singer looks like the type that would wear a polo shirt with the collar up. To the Espy. Wanker.

Sixshooter - The complete opposite to the first band, they had a brilliant sound, were tight, the drummer was noteworthingly brilliant and they totally redeemed the night. It was almost worth the $7.50 Melbourne Bitter (!!! f'kin Espy) to see them. I didn't even care that people had to wade through 3 inches of flooded piss to use the toilet after their set. Must see again.

Mammoth Mammoth - out of their comfort zone because they didn't have to bring their own smoke machine for once. These guys are always entertaining, they always finish with the song "Bad Oil" which has a bit of a Datsuns-Freeze Sucker feel about it, especially as tonight they had three dancers on stage to deliver some sort of break-beat dancing to dirty sleazy rock. Good show. The new album should be a cracker.

Electric Mary - I have no idea who gets airplay, who doesn't, who gets hype etc. I find out this morning that they are attracting alot of attention and their album is apparently damn good. On the basis of their live performance, I'll buy the album soon because whatevere hype they get is probably worth it. They were great; good bottom end sound with a singer who can hold a note and a true guitar sound. Worth seeing again.

            By the way, Espy sucks.

Well well well.... some very handsome, well-hung poster here managed to score two Pixies tickets as a gift from a very special lady.
Doolittle album in it's entirety will be interesting at the very least.

I logged onto Ticketek 45 minutes after they went on sale and both shows were sold out. They announced a Monday night 3rd show but i can't go that night.

Hopefully the person who's meant to be buying the Animal Collective tix for me today is quicker than I was with the Pixies.

Yep, I am hoping they will play Brisbane and will happily fork out the $90 to see them.
Did the Pixies ever tour here back in their hey-day?

                    I don't think they did.
I saw em a few years ago at the Palace (last gig I saw there) which was truly awesome but still a bit pissed off about missing this one.
