    Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Have seen quite a few shows recently so here is a little run down:

The Grates/ Children Collide - saw them at the Forum a couple of Fridays back. Great venue & a really good show.

The Presets - saw them last Tuesday. Good show, but I probably wasn't in the condition the rest of the crowd were to really go off.

Red Riders - saw them at Ding Dongs on Saturday, had only heard a bit of their stuff, but they were quite good.

The funny thing was the massive difference between the types of punters at each show. Had the little grungers with there jeans hanging around there ankles at a few of the shows and the pill popping party people at the Presets. Certainly makes for different atmospheres.

Also got AC/DC tickets this morning for 2 of their 3 gigs in Feb. Went the reserved seat option for one of them & will mix it up with hardcore nuts in the General Admission area for the other. Should be a lot of fun.

I am on both the internet and the phone trying to get tickets now for their Perth gig, but without luck ... bloody frustrating

The Business and Sham 69 a few weeks back were great. Moreso the Business who were right on the ball and everything I expected. Most vicious, rocking fun in the pit I've had in ages.

Dreadnaught and Argument Soul at the Northcote Social Club was a great night, both bands were excellent, the Japanese band, Argument Soul putting on an electrifying show. Dreadnaught play real dirty hardcore/rock and are the best local act I've seen in that respect.

Worth mentioning the Wagons gig last Sunday that two handsome, well endowed members of the WOOF community went to last Sunday.

Henry had assembled everyone who played on the most recent album (complete with man-choir!) and was at his most charming, self-affacing best. Highlights were definately the oldie Man Down, the slightly psycho low chant of Love Me Like I Love You, the "sort of" title track Goodtown, and of course the rendition of Fat-Elvis era Never Been to Spain.

In terms of upcoming gigs, Monster Magnet on 8 September is now locked & loaded.

Will be first time back at Billboards for 15+ years.

The Ears are reforming to play one last gig on august 16 (I think). I've never had so many excited calls from friends finding out if I'm going.

Also Cosmic Psychos are playing at the community cup this sunday-footy, bands, beer and more footy!
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Not sure if anyone's interested but this year I've seen ERIC CLAPTON at Rod Laver Arena, and JEFF BECK at the Palais.

A huge Clapton fan, I was so pumped to see him. Was lucky enough to have front row at his gig two years ago... didn't get front row this time, but still an amazing experience. A good mix of old timers and younger fans there... played two hours straight...can't wait to see him again!

Jeff Beck was a gun... a mate from work asked me to go, we had pretty good seats... just mesmerised at this guy... held the audience for nearly two hours with no singing... great stuff...

Should be there, if only to throw handfuls of excrement at Kram.

One gig I'm disappointed I won't be able to go to is The Gutter Twins on July 24th. Mark Lanegan from The Screaming Trees etc and Greg Dulli from The Afghan Whigs (one of my favourite bands) and The Twilight Singers. Saw The Twilight Singers last year at the POW and it was awesome. Lanegan would come out and sing a song every now and then just for kicks.

One of the best voices in rock, now and perhaps ever.

                            * Bump *

Monster Magnet coming up on 8 Sept, can't wait. Tuesday gig unfortunately.

Mammoth Mammoth album launch at Gersh on 12 Sept.

Saw Dave Evans on Sat night - first singer in AC/DC. Has a really good voice for rock, wore the highest pair of leather pants ever seen (he hangs left by the way). Guitarist was topless, proudly displaying an open heart scar.
Strangely, events after the evening were stranger than the gig itself. Mammoth Mammoth supported.
