Re: What are you watching at the moment
I have been reading this thread but not posting because I think my tastes are misaligned with the broader group's, but I'm missing WOOF's camaraderie in the offseason, so here goes:
We got a temporary subscription to Apple TV, so I watched the first season of For All Mankind. I will legit watch anything about the space program, I love the "rocketpunk" aesthetic. Great production, some brilliant casting, overall patchy with some poor pacing and let down hard on occasion by a terrible script - but some brilliant moments and good integration of historical footage into an alternate history story.
Started watching Mythic Quest as well. As a long-term gamer I found it missed the mark a little, like it was 'dumbed down' too much for non-gamers. Sort of farcical sitcom with an issue of the week, but a little too frenetic and doesn't quite seem to understand its source material. I expected more from the Always Sunny crowd. We stopped watching after the one-off episode called 'A Dark Quiet Death' because it was so much better than the show's regular feel that I can't go back to hammy skits. That episode is amazing - it has real heart and real chemistry between the two leads.
On Netflix I watched Alice in Borderland - mainly because I'm learning Japanese so I like to watch as much in Japanese as I can. It's pretty good, and it does wrap up neatly after two seasons (despite a sort of teaser in the last shot there won't be a third series). Riffs a lot on Alice in Wonderland (it took me way to long to realise Chishiya was a Cheshire Cat reference) and was clearly made to capitalise on the Squid Game hype but it's a good time especially for the sets. I think they may have built a 1:1 replica of the Shibuya Scramble crossing.
And if there are any anime fans on the board who want to talk Chainsaw Man... I am here for it
Thanks for the recs on Slow Horses - it gets advertised a lot and I hear it's good. Will put it on the list.Comment

Re: What are you watching at the moment
Watched a couple of movies of late, both 3 hoursish.
Went to the cinema to see the newest Avatar. Wasn't particularly keen, but my partner loves the cinema. I thought it was pretty good for what it was. If you liked the first then this is very much the same areas.
Also saw "The Batman", the Robert Pattison one. Terrible. Super slow, super hard to hear, terrible dialogue, shitty plot, predictable with some real dumb mistakes on the main characters behalf.
Avatar was long but I thought they did a pretty good job of making it at least feel like they filled up the hours with as much as they could, Batman dragged and when I paused over an hour in to grab some food and saw we weren't eve halfway I was not impressed.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: What are you watching at the moment
Have you tried watching Severance?
I really enjoy Mythic Quest but I am a non gamer - unless you count my Atari playing days from the 1980's....More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: What are you watching at the moment
I do wish they'd wrapped it up in one season though, I think some of the weirder parts of the concept will start to break under the strain of a longer runtime.Comment

I'm a Sunny fan and a gamer and I enjoyed Mythic Quest. I'm sure it's not entirely accurate to game development but ultimately it's probably meant to be a stand in for any creative commercial pursuit (like Idunno a creating a TV show) They did a similar episode to the Dark Quiet Death one in season 2 going back to when C.W Longbottom was starting out as a writer you may enjoy as a one off.
Chainsaw Man was great (as was Spy Family if we're talking anime)
AIB is the only show there I haven't seen but I think your tastes are pretty aligned with the board (or at least somewhat with mine) so go ahead and share.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Re: What are you watching at the moment
Because I am Very Smart and only watch capital C Cinema I got a VPN to buy a subscription to the Criterion Channel. It’s kinda like going to one of those stores where you never know what you’re gonna buy but find something every time you’re there.
Worth looking into if it’s your sort of thing.- I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -Comment

Re: What are you watching at the moment
Over Xmas I stumbled upon Godfather of Harlem and I'm now into the 2nd series. I've enjoyed it so far.
Loosely based on a true story it centers around Bumpy Johnson who returns to Harlem after 11 years in jail and tries to re-establish his old territory. Forest Whitaker is an excellent actor and at times the role he plays reminds me of when he was in the Shield.Comment

Watched a movie called "The Spinning Man" with Guy Pearce and Pierce Brosnan. Ignore the critics, it's fantastic. It's on Amazon Prime for those that have it.BT COME BACK!
