I agree with your sentiment though, we should be taking Darcy and at least two more kids in addition to upgrading Sweet & Khamis.
If Darcy does genuine rise up the rankings, we really should be looking to trade up as high as possible to get in front of a bid.

I do hope he gets picked in the Metro side for the champs and we see him up against the best in the country, that will tell us plenty.
To be fair to Twomey, he put out an article many weeks ago saying multiple recruiters were telling him that Darcy was Top 20. That was based on watching NAB League and talking to recruiters. That he is following him to Scotch games and he is upgrading the Top 20 assessment to possible Top 10 isn’t I imagine guess work or Darcy being taller. Twomey is investing a fair chunk of time in Darcy, I guess with good reason. Twomey trades on being a good judge on Vic kids especially, to upgrade him from Top 20 to Top 10 gets my attention.

Yep. This has potentially gotten very, very interesting for Darcy and what our first rounder is, and then what we do with it.

        I love it!!!

Disappointing, but can’t blame him. Couldn’t we take him as a free hit Cat B last year and decide not to?

On a tangent, Glass-McCasker and Reuben William are the only two Footscray players I can see on the list.

If Darcy is heading into top 10 territory as Twomey is suggesting then my guess is we will have to try and trade out our 1st rounder to get an upgrade on points again like we did last year with Jamarra. Twomey does get good intel and he wouldn't be going live with this without some credible inside info.

              As it currently stands we have pick 17 and this might be a juicy carrot for clubs like Richmond or Geelong who currently have the types of picks we would be interested in. For example, based on current ladder position;

              Richmond have 27, 30, 42 & 48

              Geelong have 26, 29, 35, 53

These two clubs have strong lists and may not want to use all these picks. They could be keen to move up the order by packaging some of their picks. Adelaide & Gold Coast also have a good hand of picks.

Then of course we have the situation where our fringe players may look to further their careers elsewhere for more opportunity. Guys like Richards, Lipinski, West, Schache, Young, Cordy, Jong, Wallis spring to mind immediately. I can't see how we keep all of them when we have to clear at least 3 spots on the list going into the draft but also keeping our cash fluent in order to retain our big names and possibly head to market to address needs, ie Key defender. So a couple of trades at least appears inevitable. That should add to our draft points tally to get Darcy or help secure the KD. But will it be enough?

So it will be fascinating how we deal with this.

Darcy was a borderline rookie prospect going into this year. That's a hell of an increase in rating... and I'm not sure I buy it. If you're rating him on par with kids like Sonsie or the WA talls, Sam is well behind.

Clubs are usually hesitant to use first round picks on skinny ruckmen aren't they? English was a rarity and he was only taken at the very end of the first round.

So why is Twomey pushing him hard as and divulging what recruiters are alleging saying? I’m not saying anything one way or the other about the kid, but I don’t see what Twomey gets out of it if Sam is a false idol.

Why can’t they just let us have our F/S and NGA kids in peace? We need to cotton wool Darcy like we did with Hunter.

Boys have development/growth surges after age 15 and later. It is not implausible for this to be the case with Sam.

When it happens later they may retain more agility which is a very good thing.

Now Gerard Healy is spruiking Sam Darcy as a potential #1 pick: https://www.3aw.com.au/gerard-healy-...-bayside-cafe/

Why are they doing us dirty like this?
