Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
Yeah, Darcy is probably the biggest kid in every school footy game he plays and can use his height and size to overpower other kids. It's also a much lower standard than NAB League where he's been ok, but not dominant by any metric.
I do hope he gets picked in the Metro side for the champs and we see him up against the best in the country, that will tell us plenty.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Disappointing, but can’t blame him. Couldn’t we take him as a free hit Cat B last year and decide not to?
On a tangent, Glass-McCasker and Reuben William are the only two Footscray players I can see on the list.Comment

Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
As it currently stands we have pick 17 and this might be a juicy carrot for clubs like Richmond or Geelong who currently have the types of picks we would be interested in. For example, based on current ladder position;
Richmond have 27, 30, 42 & 48
Geelong have 26, 29, 35, 53
These two clubs have strong lists and may not want to use all these picks. They could be keen to move up the order by packaging some of their picks. Adelaide & Gold Coast also have a good hand of picks.
Then of course we have the situation where our fringe players may look to further their careers elsewhere for more opportunity. Guys like Richards, Lipinski, West, Schache, Young, Cordy, Jong, Wallis spring to mind immediately. I can't see how we keep all of them when we have to clear at least 3 spots on the list going into the draft but also keeping our cash fluent in order to retain our big names and possibly head to market to address needs, ie Key defender. So a couple of trades at least appears inevitable. That should add to our draft points tally to get Darcy or help secure the KD. But will it be enough?
So it will be fascinating how we deal with this.Listening to Brahm's 3rd RacketComment

Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
To be fair to Twomey, he put out an article many weeks ago saying multiple recruiters were telling him that Darcy was Top 20. That was based on watching NAB League and talking to recruiters. That he is following him to Scotch games and he is upgrading the Top 20 assessment to possible Top 10 isn’t I imagine guess work or Darcy being taller. Twomey is investing a fair chunk of time in Darcy, I guess with good reason. Twomey trades on being a good judge on Vic kids especially, to upgrade him from Top 20 to Top 10 gets my attention.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

So why is Twomey pushing him hard as and divulging what recruiters are alleging saying? I’m not saying anything one way or the other about the kid, but I don’t see what Twomey gets out of it if Sam is a false idol.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Why can’t they just let us have our F/S and NGA kids in peace? We need to cotton wool Darcy like we did with Hunter.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment
