Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Maybe opens up Pick 56 to use which could come into the very late 40’s. Then we’d want Lual to slide passed that or live trade it out for a very late F2 or F3 if there’s enough points for Lual after that. I thought with his high finish in the time trial he’d rise not fall, but may he keep sliding now that clubs know they can’t get him and focus on players they can get.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
It looks to be determined. From what I can tell (on limited public info) he’s being used as a utility type in various positions with a good size about him. Once he hits the Coates League proper we will see if he moves into a pure mid. From what I can tell he already seems close to 6ft so he could grow to the 190cm range. So he might be a fwd/def utility, or a big bodied mid. If he can become a bona fide mid that would be awesome. It sounds like he reads the play very well. Mof might have some more on him from his contacts.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
I?d be happy. If we could keep them, that Croft, Curtin, Buss & JOD for over a decade. While the forwardline has Naughton, Marra, Darcy, Cody & Clarke for a decade. Either end long term is set if we can keep them all.
Just need to smash out a few mids over the next few years plus Levi West in three years time.
I still think North trade up and Curtin goes at 3 or 4. Then Watson slides down to us.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Just did some white boarding of how the draft might look from our perspective. A phantom draft of sorts for giggles and making some assumptions on how picks might shuffle around when other bids are matched.
1 - West Coast - Harley Reid
No surprise there, the consensus #1 pick selected
2 - North Melbourne - Zane Duursma
A great mid sized forward who can also contribute in the midfield.
3 - Gold Coast Suns - Jed Walter
North's bid on Walter is matched by the Suns losing picks 24, 26 and 27 getting a pick in the early 50's back.
4 - North Melbourne - Colby McKercher
The best midfielder, a real ball winner
5 - Hawthorn - Nick Watson
After missing out on their preferred selection in Duursma, the Hawks take the best small forward.
6 - Western Bulldogs - Ryley Sanders
A combo inside/outside midfielder and capable goal kicker when forward.
7 - Gold Coast - Ethan Read
Suns match the Dee's bid losing picks 29, 33 and 53
8 - Melbourne - Daniel Curtin
The most versatile tall in the draft
9 - GWS - Nate Caddy
An excellent mid to tall forward.
10 - Geelong - Connor O'Sullivan
They lose one key defender during the trade period and add another at the draft.
11 - Essendon - Caleb Windsor
The winger tested brilliantly at the Combine
12 - Adelaide - James Leake
One of the most versatile mid sized players available.
13 - Western Bulldogs - Jordon Croft

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Would North not use pick 2 to bid on Walter? If you're gonna nominate him to make the Suns pay wouldn't you use your higher pick and make them pay more? It's the same outcome either way.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Hawks want Ginnivan & Watson? Wouldn’t Curtin address a need, or are the rumours he might get homesick got some weight to them?
Would we pass on Curtin?Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
I think North should select Curtin because they're already got a more than decent midfield and with Logue out for a fair chunk of 2024 they could probably do with some help from a taller player.

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
They will lose Bruest soon enough so bringing in 2 small forwards might not be overkill but you've made a good point and it might be a consideration. They'll also be bringing in McCabe with a later pick.

Fingers crossed they take Curtain as my best case is McKercher falling through all it's unlikely.BT COME BACK!

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Not unless I could get higher up the order so I'd probably be okay with trading pick 1 for pick 3, 15 and 17.
I'd then see if I could get Adelaide to part with pick 10 for 15 and 17. Perhaps the Swans might be up for a trade of picks and Geelong might also be interested.
If I could get into a position where I could add local boys in Curtin, Tholstrup, Collard and Edwards it might be worth letting go of access to Reid.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment
