Went to see Eddie Vedder at the Palais last night, great show as always. He mentioned going to watch Springsteen the night before (he must have sat in the crowd whilst not on stage) which resulted in him having a very large hangover after people in the crowd kept on giving him beers throughout the show.
Saturday night Eddie actually appeared on stage with Springsteen for highway to hell.
Sorry for the delay in replying - I hate typing long replies on my phone and this is the first time I've sat at an actual computer for a while.

Surprised that "Slow Show" was one of your favourites. It's probably my favourite National song but I thought it was the most disappointing song of the night personally. Just thought the main riff was completely lost and much to quiet and subtle, when it should be this the feature of the song.
Yeah I think I attach some personal value to the song so it was probably one of my favourites simpy because they played it. For some reason the "29 years" line makes me think of my daughter (even though it was 35 years!).
Now that you've mentioned it, the riff was pretty subdued. I've watched the Sydney show on youtube, and it was much the same there. Thanks for ruining it for me Soupa .

I liked the venue, although I was in the seating bit which is a very big difference to the standing. I always saw the National as a real sit back and absorb while drinking red wine band, which would have been perfect for the Music Bowl, although they were a bit rockier than that. I think they were better suited to it than Arcade Fire though, or other bands to play it in the past including Tool and the Chili Peppers.
Fair enough.

It was a very big setlist, about 23 songs. I didn't think it was perfectly structured, I think at times they had momentum which they didn't fully take advantage of. I thought songs like Bloodbuzz Ohio were lost in the middle of the set a little and I would have liked to see them really finish the main set with 3 or 4 of their really strong songs, something like England, Bloodbuzz, Fake Empire and Abel.
Dammit, you're right again. I wish I hadn't entered into this conversation now!

It's all in the bass drum with the National. The drummer is really good at changing the tempo of the song with the bass drum, look at something like Humiliation for that. It's almost like a Haertbeat getting faster and more powerful. Loved the intro to Squalor Victoria.
Not sure if we're talking about the same thing or not - I'm not very musically minded. I'm talking about the rapid little tattoo beats he seems to play between regular beats. It's a distinctly "National" sound.

My favourites of the night were Bloodbuzz Ohio, Afraid of Everyone, Conversation 3:18, Need my Girl (purely for the guitar trick they did which was really cool), Abel, Fake Empire, Humliation and mr November, so pretty much everything
Would gladly see them again, but I have this concert on the rung just below my handful of ""greatest ever"" concerts. I just felt with a better arranged setlist and some slight changes it could have been even better.
Fair enough. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed the concert. Usually by the end of concerts I'm glad for the band to wrap up, but I just wanted these guys to keep playing. It was no Bon Jovi 95 or Metallica 2010 (I know, I'm surprised too that they've been my favourite shows), but it was a damn good show. I love The National.
Goint to see the Stones next month at Hanging Rock and then going to Bluesfest in Byron at Easter. can't wait!
Yes going too Doctor. Just hoping it doesn't rain. Heard on the news that there is a huge amount of rain coming in March. As long as it is dry on March 30th.Fingers crossed.

I was at that show as well. Really enjoyed it. What did you think of the support Glen Hansard. My biggest regret was having that extra beer in the foyer and only catching 3 of his songs.
Saw the Eagles of Death Metal at the HiFi last night and had a blast. Just good, fun, rollicking rock and roll. They played most of their first album (which made me pretty happy), as well as rocking out I Want You So Hard (Boys Bad News), Only Nineteen and Cherry Cola. And Mutemath were awesome in the first support slot, musically and acrobatically (the lead singer did a flip over his keyboard mid song).

Unfortunately we were having dinner in Acland Street before the show and it took longer than expected so we missed the support, all I saw of him was when he played with Eddie.

When I walked in and looked at him I thought I recognized one of my primary school teachers but man could he perform. I believe he did a cover of Pearl Jam's "Smile" before I got there. Gutted I missed that.

Have you seen his work in his old band The Frames? Highly recommend.
