Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Just saw Chet Faker at the Palais.
Having seen his Melbourne Boiler Room gig, and because my partner and her friend had been following since he started out I thought I'd tag along for something different.
Unfortunately it wasn't a good gig (and it had nothing to do with me being old and grumpy!). They picked the wrong venue, the lighting was way too full on and they just didn't get the sound balance right. His voice disappeared which was a shame.
With it being the first gig of six or seven, hopefully they get it right because I think he could be a decent performer.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Yep. Again they were brilliant on Saturday night. Amazingly tight. They just have a great time on stage and have a huge catalogue to choose from. Really enjoyed "Arlandria" from the Wasting Light record, along with the earlier stuff. The cover of Kiss' "Detroit Rock City" went some way to alleviating the pain of my parents not letting me go to VFL Park in 1980 when I was 11.
Special mention to Rise Against. First time I had seen them live. Very good.Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Lots of love from over here!
Third time I've seen the Foo-eys live, and still love it. They just look like they're having so much fun! I will, however, be forever jealous of my boss who got to see them early on when they played at the HiFi and spent the gig standing TWO METRES away from the band in the front row.Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell
Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

Fun sums up their vibe well and in 3 hours i don't think i heard one missed note or sound from any of them. I said to my wife first thing after the concert i want to get to the point if life where I can call everyone mother-f**kers and not only it be socially acceptable but everyone would love being called it.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Actually probably the lowlight of the gig for me music was way too loud for the singing. The high pitch stuff can't cut through such loud noise. Also think Dave missed a trick after the opening base riff he definately should have done the "Stop, elaborate and listen, Ice is back with a brand new invention" then started the song again properly. Would've got a good laugh.
Taylor Hawkins is one of the best drummers in the world, but I think he should stick to drumming and leave the lead vocals to Dave. (Understand probably designed to give Daves pipes a break).Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Caught Pearls at the John Curtin on Saturday night. It was good fun, but from someone who knows absolutely zero about producing live music, the sound seemed a bit out - like the mikes were too low and some of the lyrics got lost which was a shame.
And no more Black Keys at Rochford! I was really looking forward to that gig since I hadn't seen them play live before - but whaddya do?Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Saw Mavis Staples at the Recital Centre the other night. Really good gig with a couple of big peaks. Amazing to see "I'll Take You There" played live. "You Are Not Alone" is an amazing song from Her recent collab with Tweedy that translated beautifully live.Park that car
