The absurdity of some of these compo picks is taking away from the the discourse around the Dogs giving 3 first round picks up for pick 4.
Within the industry there are major queries over the Bulldogs leadership and football department.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Lots just dismissing this and rightly so but there is certainly very few in the industry thinking this is a decent deal for us.

Definitely some mixed views but I don't mind us being aggressive in chasing a player we really want.

What worries me is there might be a player we really want in the 2024 draft, we have a poor season and miss out completely. We're throwing all our eggs in one basket and made a big gamble. It'll look like a good move if we have a strong season, if not, it's ordinary. Very ordinary.

That's a genuine chance but we would have considered that scenario.
If we don't bounce back up the ladder next season we are more exposed to that type of scrutiny.

That's how I feel about it too - it's a gamble that I'm not comfortable with considering the current flux the club's in, the speculation about the head coach and what we've seen on-field over the last 24-months.

I think we're just as much chance of finishing in the bottom 4 as the top 8 next year and if that happens, well Power and Grant should be shown the door on the back of this deal alone. They've made a speculative gamble and should be hoping like hell the cards fall their way.

Well if English or Smith decide to go next year the loss of F1 will be irrelevant as we would definitely get one back at the least .
For what it’s worth I think we will bounce back big time or if not this will be Bevos last year and in walks Leppitsch :-)

There's a huge lack of consistency in this group and I think that makes it impossible to predict what next year looks like.

I think naysayers could point to a head coach that's managed to cling to his job by the skin of his teeth, a game-plan that looks outdated and at odds with what successful clubs are doing, an ageing midfield, an over-reliance on a 33 year old full-back that's spent a long time out of the game and a forward-line geared around tall marking forwards when the Premiership winners tallest forward played as a negative player and they are extremely reliant on smaller players.

At the same time Gold Coast have just slotted in a master coach and NEED to improve, there's plenty of positivity around Hawthorn, Freo are better than what we saw this year and Geelong + Richmond just know how to win.

Inversely, we have a list brimming with elite talent, the best player in the game, a coach that has taken us to the big dance twice and a group with a hell of a lot to prove.

You throw that all into a pot and who knows what comes out - I think we're absolutely the hardest side to gauge heading into 2024.

The loss will be relevant because it would have been an additional asset on top of the return for those players should they leave.

Seeing a lot of "it doesn't matter that we gave up the future 1st because we'll trade back in" but...exactly this.

Giving up assets is always relevant. We were only two games clear of 14th/pick 5 this year. The team who finished 14th was Fremantle, who beat us in a final last year. They LOST their pick 5 asset because of a trade and gamble last year.

Depends if the asset is as good as what we traded it for .
