    Re: Father/Son Watch

Croft kicked another three goals yesterday.

That’s 15 goals in his last four games (inc. young guns game)

No hiding the 200cm kid now. But really nice to see a KPF potentially of ours who is an accurate goal kicker. At nearly 4 goals a game this month, he’s looking the goods.

Kicking straight? Give him a few years in our system. We'll fix that.

        Funny and true!

Not sure I?d be on board with dropping another top ten pick or equivalent points on a key forward.

We need more midfield youth coming through.
More of an In Bruges guy?

I will not say no to him. But I would move one to defence and/or trade one out to get the gun midfielder/s. 200cm athletic good skilled players with heaps of improvement (kicking 15 goals in their last four games) aren’t usually easy to get. We just have to make other decisions to balance things out.

If he's that good, pull the trigger.
Trade (hard) ahead of a bid (Suns?) or trade picks out then trade back into the latter stages of round 1.

We're getting him at a 20% discount - what if Darcy's lung-hole flares up again? What if Naughton suddenly gets a grandfather offer somewhere? What if Croft suddenly decides he wants to be a defender and ends up an AA CHB?

Do we baulk at a 20% discount because we currently have the cattle on the paddock - that cattle including a 30 year old Lobb?

I agree we need an inside mid - and the best trio we've had in the past decade or so have been a rookie (Matty Boyd), a pick 25 (Dunkley) and pick 40 (Libba). We can still get one.

Croft will be a Bulldog. Sam get the job done without giving up any of our two first rounders

We need more than an inside mid. We need midfield support and selection pressure now.

Our last midfielder we drafted that looks any good is Bailey Smith and that is going on four years.

Those picks you highlighted were a long time ago. Our recent rookie picks and cat b picks haven’t translated into senior footy that well.

At some stage surely we need to look at our list balance?

Why can't we still hit the draft? We have two first rounders this year, and a capable, creative list manager.
We're not giving up 6 picks (including two first rounders) for Croft

Yep. Commit to Croft, then get creative to get the best outcome. We have picks this year and next, heaps of cash and a good list manager. I remember the media saying Sam Power was a fool for believing he could keep our first (Weightman) and manage to bring in Bruce & Keath and have a later ok pick…

I want us to draft a top end talent midfielder.

Croft is trending towards a top 10 pick. Our draft points will be chewed up and or we split our first round pick.

I wish I had your optimism but watching the Ugle-Haggan and Darcy scenario play out I’m not that confident.

Then use our firsts x 2 to get GCS First which is 100% gettable. Get ahead of the bid and draft two top 10-15 players.

Where do you think Croft will be taken V our draft position points wise. I fear our picks will be chewed up and we will only have a late second rounder onwards to play with.

IMO we can’t afford to sit out another draft we just don’t have the young talent coming through for that scenario

Which is used up on Croft. I don’t think that is in the best interests of our List management strategy.

I just posted re GCS. There’s options to look at, at worst we burn a first rounder on him. If he’s worth it, great! Then use the next first on a mid or trade it for a quality young mid. Or vice versa. There’s so many different ways to play this sitting on the picks we have.
