Am I missing something? Seems kind of reasonable.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

I agree - he’s a bit of a Mr Fixit though and think he’s after more stability which it’s hard to see us offering in the shorter term, with quite a few moving parts at both ends of the ground.

I really would’ve liked Young to stay and perhaps have first dibs and partnering with English in the ruck, or up front / down back subject to where we see Schache. It’s a shame to lose a player a few years off reaching their prime years, understand careers are short and some players aren’t content waiting until they’re 25 for a regular senior spot.

I dunno, I feel there's always been a fair bit of ambivalence towards him and reckon most of us had a bit each way on him.

I guess the challenge for Young and probably Lipinski is that they feel like their best isn't good enough to get a regular senior game which maybe the right call. We would love them to say I want to prove the MC wrong but you can also see why they would consider elsewhere. I think Soup is right, if they aren't going to get a regular gig with us they are standing in the way of someone else.

            Yep, Collingwood has pick 43.

Cooney is an idiot. Never does any research.

To be fair, Gold Coast had it when he proposed the trade, they traded it to Collingwood this afternoon.

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion

We offered Young a two year contract. If we didn't rate him we wouldn't have offered him a contract at all. If he wants to go to, frankly, a tragic club like Carlton where the chances of team success are minimal rather than staying at a club where he was a week away from playing in a grand final and where he might just get a premiership medal in the future with some luck then that's up to him. Personally I think that he's being poorly advised.

I like him, good luck to him at the Blues but what more were we supposed to convince him to stay with us? Offer him the captaincy?

Not saying it's an isolation to our supporters but all supporters seem to play this way.

Young feels like a missed opportunity for mine. Could have been given much more opportunity and who knows what we may have had. His rope was short while others had a longer one, not surprised he's looking elsewhere. It's disappointing.
I don't really think thats fair or accurate. There are people on this forum that rate Young, there are others that don't.

I'm in the category of not rating him. In fact I was probably too harsh on him during the season where at one point I said something to the effect of having 'no interest in him as a footballer whatsover' - and Mantis and I duked it out a bit!

So I don't really think its a case of 'oh he's going - we didn't rate him anyway'.

Personally, I think Lewis Young needs it to be on his terms to perform well. And he may find a defensive system where there is a role for him to intercept mark as his number one priority - and be able to carve out a longer career and more senior footy. If he actually has to defend an opponent - then I think he really struggles and will probably always struggle unless he finds another gear in terms of sheer competitiveness. He has attributes, but at some point you have to turn that into performance, and I don't think he's done enough in the 5 years on the list.

Carlton play more of a one on one defence than other clubs - we're probably one of the most 'zone' of zone defences, which means players who can lapse in positioning look worse in our system (Young) and players with obvious deficiencies but are more often in the right spot (Cordy) can fit.

Sometimes a player can be both not suited to a team and a decent player. I'm not quite sure where Young fits as he seems to 'almost' fit a few positions but good luck to him.

Looks like Collingwood will pick up Kruegar on the cheap. A shame, I liked his VFL games this year.
