2015/16 Wood, for sure. But 2021/22 Wood is a shadow of that and no longer offers any marking in the defensive half. Lack of intercept marking is a significant deficiency in our side, imo.

We've got Keath and Gardner for the big KPFs. 193cm is fine for the third tall defender if that was to be his role.

Yeah it is but Tim O'Brien is not going to fill that deficiency.

He’s been fine in that role from what I’ve seen. Torched us in round 22 in that exact role, in fact.

Would be an upgrade on Wood.

I would hope that with another preseason that Buku is able to fill that role. I didn’t see a lot of Footscray games, but he showed a fair bit in preseason.

Young, 22, has a two-year offer in front of him from the Dogs but had been weighing his future after playing nine games this year for the Grand Finalists.
Adam Cooney has spitballed a 3 way trade that sees Carlton get Lewis Young, Gold Coast get Carlton's future 3rd rounder and us get Pick 43.

Would anyone else prefer we had put more games into Young instead of Cordy? I though he was excellent in game vs Lions at Ballarat. Never been given a fair run at it IMO. Sad to see Young go.

I think we should only give senior opportunities when they are deserved.
If we start handing out games on perceived threats over players leaving and ignore form, selection integrity flies out of the window

This was early in season - his form warranted a few more games IMO. Would not have been a threat to selection integrity. If we can attract a decent 2nd tall defender that is better option to Cordy and backup if Keath or Gardner goes down we should be ok. If not I think we are exposed in backline.

O'Brien would be worth considering and we shouldn't be relying on Easton Wood based on his form over the last couple of years. He's not as effective against smaller players either.

If it's O'Brien for Young then we lose a bit in the ruck depth but knowing that at least he is more likely to be played.
I'd prefer to keep Young but this is a reasonable replacement.

I love this. If Young had signed a contract it'd be a terrific result because he's such a good young prospect.

Chooses elsewhere and he's no good anyway.

Not saying it's an isolation to our supporters but all supporters seem to play this way.

Young feels like a missed opportunity for mine. Could have been given much more opportunity and who knows what we may have had. His rope was short while others had a longer one, not surprised he's looking elsewhere. It's disappointing.

                            Agree with this 100%.
I feel the way he has been treated over the last few years in particular has been nothing but “black sheep of the family” compared to others. His KPI’s must’ve been completely different to others. Hats off to him for looking elsewhere, and I hope he does fulfil his potential, that for whatever reason our MC refused to tap into.
I will never see #16 the same!!

I really like Young and don't want to lose him and I still think he has an upside we could benefit from.

I thought there was something there with Young, but am firm in my belief that if you aren't prepared to play them then don't clog up your list with them.

Young is firmly in the "players we have no interest in playing" camp.
