Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion

We put all the development work into English, I would be ropable if we traded him. He played the get-out role very well against Essendon.
He's a very good forward/ruck. Leave him there.

We need to get him signed and I'm sure Sam Power will get it done. The next step is to get him some support because while a fit Martin would have been ideal we need some more depth. Once again Power and the team should be able to identify that.

Tim is UNTOUCHABLE and must be re-signed.

Sam tried. Tim said no, he’s not signing at this point. Having a year to run.

I assume this is from Hutchy & Cornes. If so, no one should be remotely concerned.

Definitely not untouchable. If Freo came to us and said, we’ll give you Sean Darcy for English, I imagine we’ll be booking Timmy flights to Perth about 60 seconds later.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

If Tim requested out and we got a great offer, I’d think he’s traded. There’s a difference between shopping him and listening to offers on a contracted player. Like Sam Power last year, we listen to see if we get what we would want. I don’t think English is untouchable either. But a trade would need to be good. But again, if this stems from Hutchy & Cornes, it’s nonsense.

Agreed. Critical to our future success and exactly at the stage of his development where you go long on him, not trade him off. He’s a unicorn and plays a role not many can.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

My memory is foggy - was it Darcy who insisted we sign another ruckman to stay?

Yep. So we used Pick 20 on Peter Street.

                      Thanks

Terrific choice, one of my favourite Dogs.

I wonder if English might be pulling the same thing?

Not much, but he has not re-signed and maybe he does not want to be the #1 ruckman. Who knows?

He is contracted till end of next year, so he doesn't have to sign for awhile yet

                              Why though?

What if you could get Lloyd Meek and Freo's first rounder...or Meek and Brennan Cox...or...Meek and one of their early picks from the last couple of years like O'Driscoll or Chapman?

I mean, getting a ruckman back would be a non-negotiable. If we could get a ruckman and a tall defender like Cox then why wouldn't we think about it? Re-signing English is going to be very expensive and maybe that money could be better used elsewhere.

I'm in the 'Keep English' camp, but we aren't talking about Barcus Montempelli here - if he wants to go home (which, when you are from a small town 4 hours from Perth is an interesting concept) - then as long as we get value what's the big deal?
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

... or he may feel his form hasn't been the best and wants to sign when he's performing a bit better, so he can demand better terms?
It's unfortunate in the climate of players signing early that having 1 year left on a contract is sometimes seen as reason to worry.
