Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
I'm close to starting a Trade English thread. Just have to pick the right time.
Tend to agree that almost everyone is tradeable. English is no different. There's a chance his untapped potential remains untapped and what we have now is what we're going to get for the most part. So if we knock back a generous trade we're taking a gamble on the future and I at least would want us to consider alternatives to that future before we do.
If we get ruck cover and he becomes a forward/ second ruck what do we realistically need from someone as talented as he is in terms of output in that position? 30-40 goals a year? Do we think we'll get that from him?
He often led hard to provide the get-out kick down the line which is perfect as he's so tall he's hard to out-mark.
IIRC he had two CMs in the first half against Essendon.
I'm not sure we're going to find a forward with his skill-set that is also a better than average 2nd ruck.
We could just pick up Strachan from the Crows for a future 3rd to be our first ruck and be done with it, with Sweet as a back up (hopefully more ready after another pre-season).
I understand that nobody is untouchable but I doubt we'll shop him and I doubt a team will go hard enough to entice us to trade him under contract.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

I understand he is pretty valuable and we don't "need" him, but who is actually offering us anything of quality in return for him, especially if we shop him around?I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
He reminds me of Paul Salmon. AS a forward, if he can get to 30 goals a season and ruck I'd be stoked. He has circa 19 this year in 19 games.Comment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
Just had a look at Salmon's record (oddly I always thought some of his single season tallies were higher given some of the big games he had), and it's a reasonable comparison and output expectation given how the game has changed over the years.
30-40 goals a season would be about right for mine.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

I think you're probably meaning thirty goals a season!

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
Lifelong Western Bulldogs supporter Patrick Lipinski has played his last game for the club and will formally request a trade to either Collingwood or Carlton later this month.
Lipinski, 23, fell out of favour mid-season and has managed just two AFL games since May. He was not named in the 26-man squad for Saturday night’s semi-final against Brisbane Lions.
The goalkicking midfielder falls out of contract this year and has no interest in signing the deal tabled by the Bulldogs early in the season.
It was speculated that Lipinski could land at Sydney next year where he would add to a dangerous forward mix of players such as Isaac Heeney and Oliver Florent.Comment

It was speculated that Lipinski could land at Sydney next year where he would add to a dangerous forward mix of players such as Isaac Heeney and Oliver Florent.
But the Swans’ salary cap remains incredibly tight and they would struggle to afford Lipinski’s salary.
Last year they had to offload Aliir Aliir, who was named All-Australian this season, so ruckman Tom Hickey could join the club.
Lipinski sat in the MCG stands dressed in red, white and blue as the Dogs broke their 62-year premiership drought in 2016.
The fairytale looked complete two months later when the Dogs drafted Lipinski at pick No.28.
But sources close to Lipinski think he will seek a fresh start at either the Blues or Magpies after playing 56 games in five years at Whitten Oval.
The Blues are likely to trade draft pick No.6 for Adam Cerra while the Magpies would probably prefer to deal in future picks, given they will require points to secure Nick Daicos this year.
The Dogs are in a similar position and must accrue picks to help them land boom teenager Sam Darcy.
Magpies football boss Graham Wright also confirmed this week that the club’s salary cap remained tight one year on from the fire sale that wrecked chaos at the club.

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
Interesting club choices. We need the pick this year.
Collingwood are already short and we on Draft Points. Carlton won’t offer up Pick 25 and their next is 61. Both clubs may offer a future pick. Unless we have a good player of theirs in our sights to add to Lippa, we might need to see what other picks their trades bring them. What’s everyone instinct? Will Lippa go on and embarrass us? Does he have the attributes to make it? He has a massive tank, runs all day, has improved his inside game, however he has really struggled in big games with enormous pressure (the ability to body line the ball, execute under pressure etc.)Comment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
My preference was to keep Lipinski but really he’s the exact sort of trade chip that can lure us what we need (draft points/off-broadway ruckman) without hurting our 2022 match day performance.
I think he’s a good player and will show out if he gets some decent burn, but if he’s not going to get it with us then why force him to stay?- I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -Comment

So this Strachan bloke from Adelaide apparently just re-signed. Maybe we have higher ambitions for a ruck?Last edited by bulldogsthru&thru; 03-09-2021, 12:17 PM.Comment
