MARTIN, DOGS TO CONSIDER FUTURE OPTIONS

STEF Martin will sit down with the Dogs after the season to consider his future after missing a trigger clause in his contract because of his groin issues.

Martin signed a one-year deal with a games-based trigger but has played only seven games this year before being recalled for the preliminary final.

It shows how highly the Dogs value his contested work in the ruck despite his limited preparation.

The Dogs are on the lookout for another established ruckman but there are few around who would allow Tim English to play as a legitimate key position forward.

So Martin could secure another one-year deal as backup or retire after an excellent career at Melbourne, Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs over 14 seasons.

He plays his 198th game on Saturday night so cannot get to 200 games this year, but if he can overcome his groin issues he is clearly worth having on the Dogs list even if they secure another ruckman.

I wonder if Sam Power is with the team, and whether he or Turtle might have the chance to get a quick coffee or two with WA based players looking to join us. Nothing beats face to face conversations so we might get a little benefit of being in WA and free to move in a week.

Sam was shown on the coverage last night so definitely in the travelling party.

So Sam has at least a week or longer if he stays back to do his thing. Excellent.

Thinking more about it, what a leg up for us and Sam Power. Sam (& or Bevo etc) can not only meet face to face with any players in WA, which 9 Vic & NSW can’t do (Dees & Cats can too) but he can travel to have face to face pitches/meetings in all states, except NSW before coming back into lockdown.

I imagine a pitch from Sam, Bevo or Bonts in the flesh is a shitload better than a zoom call from a place in lockdown.

What a great extra bonus from getting to the GF.

Any Vic boys at WCE or the Dockers who might be over Covid and want to come home to Vic to their families?

Brander sucks. I'm expecting to see him on a certain list on another footy forum.

This is playing out in local footy, lost several players to WAFL clubs this year because players didn’t want to risk being locked down in Vic. They are hesitant to come back as well.

I want our list manager BT and of course others to give us an overview of how we might best set-up for the 2022 season.

Whats happens with our two long term injury players in Bruce and McLean? How can we best use their spots?
Who leaves us for other clubs?
Who do we make the hard calls on?

I need something else to focus on rather than thinking about the GF
