Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion

Sad to see Lipinski go but totally understandable. He's too far down the pecking order in our midfielder despite being a talented and capable AFL player. But............ since when could middle of the road players decide which clubs they would go to? It just hamstrings the whole process of trading and clogs the system up. It gives too much power to the 'chosen' clubs. If he's on the market he's on the market to the highest bidder IMO. AFEL needs to start cracking down on this.

I think Lippa for Grundy is a fair swap and they pay half his wages.

The article the other day saying we would be going all out to secure a ruck suggests to me we are probably aiming a little higher than the Strachan, Lynch unproven types. No idea who it will be, although I think Ceglar would be a chance to fall out of Hawthorn with McEvoy not likely to leave and them wanting to get games into Reeves.

          and /or
          do pick swaps
          and
get Grundy on simiilar contract part pay deal. We pay 60% they pay 40%

that could free Collingwood's salary cap by 500K a year

add in Lipinski, they get a ready made outside mid who wants to play more in the midfield

          Sam power, please explore!

I suggested we trade Lipinski last year and got some mixed reactions.

The problem he's got is that he's too slow to play wing (he's really, really slow) and his contested work is abysmal. If you can't win the footy in close and can't cover ground quickly on the outside, you're in no mans land at the top grade.

He's suited to a team 7th-18th because he's smart with good skills and can find the goals, but in the top 5-6 contending sides he just wouldn't get a look in.

I don't think it's a matter of him embarrassing us, given he was offered a three year deal to stay even though he's not been able to lock in a spot.

              Good luck to him.

People still look at Jones that way under pretty much identical conditions (though I believe Jones still got plenty of opportunities with us)

I think fans/life can be too much trying to auto see a 'right' and 'wrong' side.

I don't blame Bevo/MC for not playing Lipsinki. Mid stacked, he is too slow for outside and contested ability not good enough to play inside.

I don't blame Lipsinki for wanting to leave. He will get more opportunities elsewhere. In danger of his career really stalling (more so).

So it comes down to a win/win/win.

Bulldogs: Get fair reward for Lippa. He doesn't fit into our 22.
                      Lippa: Gets more opportunities.
Destination club: Gets a player they need to help them.

Collingwood are already short and we on Draft Points. Carlton won’t offer up Pick 25 and their next is 61. Both clubs may offer a future pick. Unless we have a good player of theirs in our sights to add to Lippa, we might need to see what other picks their trades bring them. Not straight forward.
Carlton might get picks back as part of a Cerra trade.
Collingwood are in a pickle but if they lose a player or two due to the cap we might be bale to fashion some three way trading.

Good synopsis. That is exactly how it is.

Bloody shame Lippa didn't kick on, I was bullish on him this year after his pre-season games. Thought he'd be our big improver for the year but not to be. If we can somehow manufacture a competent ruck through his departure, it's a win win.

No he won't go on and embarass us.

He's a decent player, and I think he'll go on and have a reasonable career. But it seems to me now's the right time for both sides to part company.

Good luck to him he seems a good dude.
