Why can NSW open up more readily, when you would expect the experts (if they all know what they are doing) to be giving very similar advice.
When NSW locked down the Northern Beaches for 3 or 4 weeks over Christmas I was interested in how they could do that geographically (without needing to hit Greater Sydney).

My manager lives up on the harbour he said that there’s basically one road in and out of that area so easier to contain.

Personally I’m not at all familiar with the area but found that quite interesting as I imagine it would be hard to do here?

That's correct, the northern beaches provided ideal conditions for isolation because of the limited options in or out of the area.

A 3km radius exclusion zone has a circumference/ perimeter of 18.85km, a 5km radius has one of 31.42km. To maintain integrity would take a lot of police power, and it just doesn't work which is actually why social distancing is the preferred control method versus straight out quarantining. A city like Melbourne is geographically challenged.

If the Federal Gov did the right thing last year and developed proper quarantine stations and not allowed Hotel quarantine, plus began vaccination when other countries did, then we wouldn't be in this situation. We have only fully vaccinated 2.9% of the population compared to UK and USA who are over 40%.

We will be lucky to fully vaccinate everyone by March 2022.
I would say that Victoria are just good at blaming everyone else.

I travel regularly for work and Victoria had been way behind everyone else in their systems.

I felt like I moved in time when I moved to NSW early this year. I didn’t expect much of a change not having left the state since the pandemic began. Plus I thought the media was pushing the State of Origin, Vic vs NSW, stuff to make up a BS competitive narrative. But the systems and approach of the two states is vastly different. Not in ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, but I feel a confidence and trust up here that I didn’t feel before in Victoria and it’s unfair to compare. I was due to travel back to Vic just as the latest outbreak happened, and disappointingly couldn’t happen, but I got that sick feeling again. I hope that things improve for everyone in Victoria (especially WBFC players and staff ), no matter the issue or view of either government handling. It’s amazing how good just feeling normal in the everyday feels all the time.

Bulldog Joe is right, the Victorian government are still scared of what happened in 2020.

Having said that with no leadership from the feds, no Australia wide policy around COVID, no understanding of how being vaccinated changes anything for a person in Australia it all seems impossible to govern right.

It is certainly one of the issues.
Before the pandemic I actually believed Australia was one country.

Clearly we are not and each state seems to have its own agenda.

Federal leadership for a unified approach would have been significantly better, but I am unable to determine whether that is a failing from the leaders in Canberra or the determination of individual state governments to control their own space.

It's all of the above, plus more. Parochialism comes into it as we as voters get a massive collective boner for the chest beating that goes on at COAG or any other forum where state based and federal politicians get together.

What is good is that federation has some cool things baked into it around it being law for the government to follow health advice at federal and state level in these circumstances, thus there's consensus at a medical level.

Acting Premier was asked about our game at Geelong in 1.5 weeks. He wouldn’t commit to it going ahead, or any crowds or other restrictions. Too early.

Just got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the Royal Exhibition Building. I am fully vaccinated now against Covid-19.

                            Well done Easty.

I'm still waiting for vaccines to open up for my group. With this shortage of Pfizer, I'm guessing it's going to be a little while longer yet.

Just remember, you can still get Coronavirus and also dish it off but you are protected from being very sick.
