I know, I'm looking forward to it - we managed to get level one seating about eight rows up directly infront of the rotating stage. I can't wait to see how that looks.

It was announced on a Thursday or Friday a few weeks ago and tickets went on sale a few days later so the tickets were snapped up quickly.

Yes, he was amazing, kept the crowd entertained and Purple Rain killed it everyone was bopping like there was no tomorrow.

So many upcoming concerts...I've booked George Michael (November) saw him last time he was here and he was great, so we've upgraded our tickets for him this time round and have purchased Diamond seating.

Next tickets to purchase are for Coldplay which go on sale next week.

Saw Justin Townes Earle at Northcote a few weeks back. Not my kind of country really, but his fans were happy enough.

BUT up on one of the front tables was our very own Bob Murphy! Onya Bobby.

^ Saw Justin Townes Earle at Boogie, always entertaining.

On my first night in London (14 June) Future of The Left are playing about 1km from where I am staying, will be brilliant if I can get a ticket.

Melbourne Sympathy Orchestra next Saturday @ The Benidgo Hotel are on the line up for an album launch of Pina Tutteri. Absolute gold from these guys, genre busting, satirical brilliance.

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Saw a heap on my holiday:
Future of the Left @ XOYO, London. Fantatsic show, these guys always deliver live and the show turned into an even more raucous piece of mayhem with the support band joining them onstage for a 20 minute loose version of Lapsed Catholics at the end which left the stage in a shambles.

Jennifer Rostock,, Danube River Festival, Vienna. The world's largest music festival? 4 million people over 3 days, absolutely free. Mind boggling. She sang entirely in German, and was actually really good. Imaginbe a talented, non-lame punk version of Natalie Bassingthwaite that was good live. Shaddup, it is possible.

Simple Minds, Danube River Festival - Only saw the second half of the set, but they were really tight and the vocals sound amazing, although strangely for such a good set they have little stage presence. Glad I saw them.

                        Ugly Kid Joe, Prague
I liked these guys when I was a kid so could not walk past without getting a ticket. Expectign a train wreck, I saw only 2 original members (I think), teh best female drummer I've ever seen, and a frontman who managed to get a Czech crowd really going (no mean feat). They've released an EP, first new music since 92. Actually really enjoyable, all on the back of Rich the vocalist.

                        Open'er Festival, Gdynia, Poland.

4 day fesival with 50,000 people each day. Freaking huge, even had a museum, cinema & fashion stage with catwalk.

Some of the more notable acts:

Bjork - amazing voice, although the 30 minutes I spent watching her set I was distracted by the stage show and barely even looked at her. Didn;t stay as I had a clash with:

Gogol Bordello - I was excited to see these guys and their brand of obnoxious Gypsy Punk, and they delivered one of the best festival sets I've seen in my life. The best band I saw of the festival, if they come to Australia I'd consider seeing them in Melbourne and flying interstate to catch a second gig. I've only flown interstate before for Kyuss. Gogol Bordello were that good.

Jamie Woon - Is massive in Europe, and I did enjoy the set although it's not the sort of thing I'd go out of my way to see again.

Justice - Only saw a small part of the set but sounded ok, I'm not normally a huge dance fan.

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Just bought tickets to Icehouse's 'Primitive Colours' concert at Hamer Hall in November. Two of my favourite albums in one concert! Also got tickets to see The Living End at The Corner Hotel in December. Chose to see them play 'State of Emergency' in it's entirity as it's my favourite album of theirs. Their self titled album is by far the most popular though with 4 nights in Melbourne sold out! Looking forward to hearing what next years Soundwave lineup will be too.

Just saw them at a festival in Germany, their mixing was actually kind of shit for djs of such reputation but they got the crowd going like nothing I've ever seen.

Some others from the same festival (melt):

Bloc Party were just amazing, only played 2 songs off their new album in a killer set. Everyone should try to hear This Modern Love once in a lifetime

M83 were kinda cool, got a massive mosh going. Don't really have a large repertoire of songs to go with live it seems (played Midnight City twice), but created a gigantic mosh, awesome buzz. Also some of the weirdest av/lighting I've seen (in particular an alien with lights coming outbid it's fingertips)

The Vaccines rock; so much energy for a dude who used to play folk music. Much more raw sound live than in recording, which really complimented their music

Saw this dj Floating Points at about 5:30 am; anyone into really minimal tech (know there's a couple on here) should give it a YouTube

Lana Del Ray; pox music, but wouldbang/10

The Blood Red Shoes are this awesome British two piece band I'd never seen before; really rock tunes with no bass, so really heavy on the lo-fi style, which is the best kind of style. Also have a soft spot for girl lead guitars

Caribou; played in a really tight bunch formation which took up about a tenth of the stage. They virtually didn't stop playing, and did a rework of Sun which had to be seen to be believed

Gossip have this amazing frontwoman with a fantastic live voice, but the band behind her is absolutely terrible and did their best to kill the crowd; terrible waste of talent.

                            Festivals are awesome.
                            - I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -

Didn't see much of Bloc Party at Open'er, weird timings.

M83 were very good, had no expectations of them but eneded up down the front with my top off (!) then had a Ukranian girl on my shoulders.

Bat for Lashes were excellent - I think most of the crowd were in a trance, frontwoman really owned the stage and it truned out to be one of the highlights of the festival.

Franz Ferdinand were solid, played the hits and everyone was up for "take me out". Watched them from the bar and got a dance pit going, no mean feat in Poland.

Mumford & Sons were decent, although for some reason every English person I spoke to there hates them. Little Lion Man had the crowd going, glad I saw them but wouldn't fork out for their solo gig if they toured.

The XX turned out to be fantastic - I was not really familiar with their music, and some had expected them to be boring after some less than glamorous reviews from other gigs, but they were a great choice to close the festival - 50,000 people stood in ankle-deep mud and watched. There was a giant glass X on stage that filled with smoke halfway through.

I didn't see the museum or the fashion stage they had running (the festival is unbelievable) nor visit the 3 or 4 nightclubs there whilst they were open (drank at one after clsoe with the bar staff) but the food was brilliant, the bars worked pretty week (the festival issed their own credit cards for the event, free with first charge) although gettign in and getting wristbands was typical of Polish organisation.
