I'm all for backing our ability to keep Tim at the club. He's 2 weeks away from turning 26yo and we've waited patiently for this sort of season from him so I'm in no hurry to let him walk. That changes if he asks for a move though.

The North pick 3 compensation for McKay is because of the AFL fixing a problem at any cost and I don't think it factors in with our dealings with a potential trade for English.
Kelly to Eagles on draft index points was between 2 and 1 I believe.
So to quote Bevo... Pony up!

However your point is valid. It would be a complicated deal that wouldn't be a straight swap of a top 5 for Tim.

      Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023

Is it just me, or is it weird the only time our club is mentioned in any trade news there is not a single player being linked to us and our stars are the ones mentioned as leaving (or other clubs not trying to acquire them). Despite the fact we have multiple high picks that will be traded and a massive amount of salary cap.

Lots of players on the move it seems, but only out of our club and not into it. We are either keeping our powder extremely dry or the media won?t report anything that could be perceived as positive.

Yep. Just seems weird reading article after article of trade rumours and all ours are trades out, with no trades in. And no analysis of how we are situated. I guess it will be “outrageous shocking turn of events” when we start throwing our picks and money around.

They certainly aren't trying to win now, next year is probably planned to be bottom 4 with "green shoots', so English doesn't fit with that.

And why would they trade this year when they can get him FOR FREE next year. The Bulldogs certainly can't match the offer if it's even within $300K pa of what is being rumoured.

Why give up either super high picks (pick 1 or top 5 at the least) or multiple good picks (first rounders) when the club clearly needs to get multiple young guys with scope in?

Especially for a ruck that you can probably get when you want to actually start climbing. He'll be 28 by the time they are finals relevant anyway, which is fine if his free but you aren't giving up pick 1ish for 4 years of an elite ruck are you when there is an alternative method.
Because players get injured, and supporters need hope.

Or there is just nobody who wants to come our way.

Any player coming to the Bulldogs might be concerned what position he will end up with.

Experience with a few hasn't been great.

                  Trengove
Lobb is inferior to his last year at Freo

                  Why did Dunkley really leave?

We have also moved on quite a few established players
                  Stringer, Roughead, Dahlhaus and Hunter.

We attracted Lobb. Freo's main forward target and major goal kicker.

Liam Jones could have gone to a lot of clubs but he came to us. None of his OG mates are still at the club, so maybe we offered him a lot of cash - or he bought in.

JJ and Jones are pretty tight.

I can't remember who else was linked with him at the time, 3 years at his age was very generous and an offer I doubt anyone else put on the table.

Lobb was exactly what was missing from last season and would have been sold on that idea as well as move back to Vic. It was a perfect fit for both parties.

We are not attracting the 25-27 year old free agents at all.

We are looking at this very differently and Treloar landing at us in the manner he did clearly isn't the same as someone in their prime actually courting us.
We have a long list of examples of players coming to us for their last contract. Martin, Welsh, Akermanis, Hall, Lobb, Trengove, Jones, Bruce, Suckling and many others when compared to the likes of Stevens, Crozier, Boyd and Crameri etc that came to us with a lot of footy in front of them
We've actually done very well out of being a 2nd chance place with our recruitment and development of the likes of Hamling, Gardner and hopefully Baker and Poulter.

Treloar has been ultra professional and it's a big tick that he has come in an adapted to the change but we shouldn't confuse his arrival at the Dogs with our ability to attract 'in their prime' type players. The chips fell our way and Power did a great job at landing a big name player. He might squeeze another year from us but it's essentially his last contract.
