Imagine the Eagles trading Dean Cox in his prime.

So after all these years of developing we put into him he finally blooms and first big offer comes and he pisses off. Gee thanks Tim.

Can't see us getting pick 1 either so thats a real shit sandwich.

Yeah, don't blame Tim yet, he hasn't said anything - just rumours floating

I’m all for trading him now.

Our midfield is 12-18 months away from falling off a cliff, getting pick 1 would change that scenario dramatically.

Grundy is certainly gettable and an adequate replacement.

            Tim's a good player but let's not pretend he's a match winner. He isn't.

Tim certainly could be a matchwinner.

I remember Jordan Roughead taking that mark from the kick-in after the disallowed JJ goal. That was a matchwinning mark. Tim is absolutely capable of that.

Not really surprised. I've been a bit concerned he, Naughts and/or Marra would leave for bigger offers since we drafted them. It's the unfortunate reality of being a small club.

Hopefully they can all buy into doing something together but most of the time the rumours turn out to be true. Nothing solid has hit the media yet though so who knows with this one.

Tim already played a number of finals. Was so poor in 3/4 of them that his opposite number was the match winner.

                    Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023

I think we've seen that bargaining power is significantly reduced when a player is out of contract the last few years. If English is tempted by the massive offer (why wouldn't he be if those numbers are accurate) then we should just focus on getting the best result right now. But he is in contract, so it should be overs.

I actually quite like Bailey Williams at the Eagles, from what I've seen this year. He's battled well in a horrible team. I'd take a top 5 pick + Williams for English, plus whatever is needed to balance it (some draft points trade, as BT has mentioned?).

Let's talk about the Grundy as a replacement English scenario that is being mentioned here and I ask why does this work?
Grundy is still a good ruckman and I don't for one minute think he's cooked as some refer to him as but he's on a 1m per season and Collingwood are stumping up around 350k a season to have Melbourne take the balance of the contract off their books. That deal falls over if Grundy moves clubs. We might as well pay Tim 1m a season than Grundy in my opinion and remember we are supposed to be stumping up some money for Melbourne to take Hunter off our hands so I don't think they're in a position to cover enough of Grundy's contract to get me interested in a swap. If we want to talk about English being traded to West Coast then fine but the chances of Grundy heading our way isn't realistic from my perspective.

Agree plus he's 30 next year. Big no for me.

He's not cooked however accepting a role with a team that has the best ruckman of the last 20 years probably doesn't fill me with incredible faith in his ability to make smart decisions; I wonder about his motivation.
I'd much rather have a crack at a young ruck that has similar traits to English.
Bailey Williams for eg as mentioned by JD.
Even someone like Darcy Fort on the cheap for a couple of years I'd prefer.

A 30yo as ruck isn’t a problem. His motivation may be, I don’t think he wanted to leave Collingwood like Trealor. He chose Melbourne because Gawn wanted him. Everyone thought 2 alpha rucks might not work. We were actually a better suit with English

A good example is Terry Wallace goes to Richmond when they had centremen. Was much better at a 3rd club being us.

                                There's a story behind that.

He was treated poorly by the Tigers. He said jam it.
