Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
I'm going to buck the trend here.
First, let me preface this by saying I was in favour of rebuilding because I think this group has failed too many times to go back to battle. I felt we could have rebuilt quickly if we made some tough decisions to trade quality players.
However, it's clear the club still thinks it can contend. Fair enough - I can respect not dying wondering. Our recruiting is in line with that.
Given that direction, Harmes and Coffield make sense. Why wouldn't Billings (and possibly other Moneyball options) too? I've never been a BIG fan of Billings, but he's never really been part of a good team. He's cream, not cake. I could understand our rationale if we thought benefit outweighed cost and traded for him.
All depends what he's worth, and what role he would play.
If it means we rarely see McNeil, R Smith, Vandermeer etc. that's only going to improve our depth and, in turn, improve our results.W00F!Comment

Ignoring thoughts on particular players, the concept is interesting and I don’t mind it. I think lifting the average output from our bottom 4-6 is gonna help overall.Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Oh so now recruiting an older guy who wasn't picked for significant stretches of the year and is on 800k a year and plays forward but has an accuracy of 40% not accounting for attempts that don't score is suddenly a 'horrible idea'
I bet you were against trading for Jade Rawlings too and last I checked he kicked 7 on debut.
SEN reported he is on 500K/y and has got 2 years to go on his current contract.
SEN?s Tom Morris also reported that trade interest in Billings is growing after he appeared to have a lack of suitors just last week.
Morris believes the reigning premiers would be a great fit for the Saint as he looks to revitalise his career.
?The word around Jack Billings over the last five to seven days has shifted from what it was before that,? Morris said.
?There is talk around Jack Billings now (as a trade option), there wasn't talk around Jack Billings a couple of weeks ago.
?I?m not sure the answer to that (if they would pay part of his salary), but they will help him get there. I don't think they're going to ask for too much.
?He has two years to go on his contract on about $500,000 a year. He's keen to leave, his manager's keen for him to leave, the Saints are happy for him to go.It always seems impossible until it's done. Nelson MandelaComment

Oh happy to be corrected there. I thought I read he was on 800k and maybe I did but that was wrong[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

I'm not totally against Billings if it's on the cheap. He's a decent player if healthy.Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
If Croft nominates.
If Harmes can be good again.
If we make top 4.
If bloody if!
Not speaking about your post as much as im worried we might be gambling a bit here thinking we've got a house of cards but we are actually holding a uno reverse card.BT COME BACK!

Whose career accuracy at goal is around 40%. Just don’t have him kick at goal if we want to improve our goal kicking.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Would certainly save time and money scouting games and assessing players! What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Plus - if we can sign Billings, get Tom Boyd to pull the boots back on and convince Josh Kelly to move down from the Giants, we'll have put together the top 4 selections from the 2013 draft. Now that would be something wouldn't it? I mean, we've already got pick 29 from that draft running around as well, so maybe we could narrow our future recruiting pool??

It's our new strategy it seems.Last edited by bulldogsthru&thru; 11-10-2023, 09:15 AM.Comment
