Maybe we could have eight changes.

McNeil, McComb, Raak and Smith are rookies. Clean house on our rookies and reload.

Delist four from the main list and add via the national draft.

We really need to be creative with our list spots. Something we have not been the last few years.

I think the difference between Duryea and some others on that list is age and pace. He'll be 33 at the start of next season and his job would be playing on some of the quickest and most agile small men in the game. I thought he was respectable this year, but was borderline physically cooked and that played out in some really poor performances. I have serious concerns about what his 2024 would look like and think that it's probably best for his legacy if he hangs them up this season.

Go out and target a lockdown small in the trade period, look at a mature-aged player at state level or put trust in Cleary/Gallagher, but I just don't think a 33-year-old Duryea has the legs for the Bobby Hills of the world.

I'd be inclined to give Crozier, McLean and McNeil one-year deals, just as we don't have the draft collateral to make that many changes and they do have the capacity to do a job if needed (thought McLean was good against Geelong and Crozier had some good form early in the year). I think Bedendo has talent so would give him another year too.

        That'd look like
        Bruce - retired
        Duryea - retired
        Hannan - delisted
        McComb - delisted
        Raak - delisted
        Roarke Smith - delisted
        TOB - delisted
Sweet - would keep, but he deserves to chase opportunity
Khamis - would keep, but he deserve to chase opportunity

From what I’ve read from Sam Power and others (haven’t listened to it), it’s rated as a fairly strong and solidly deep draft. I would’ve thought that’s a good time to take a couple of extra later picks.

I guess the question is how many trades/FA’s in we have.

I’d just elevate Scott, but I can see the club doing McNeil too (2 to the main list)
Say 3 trades (5 on the main list)
Say 4 draft picks (9 on the main list) (6 picks taken into draft for points, rookie elevations after ND)

9: Bruce, Hannan, Sweet, Khamis, McLean, Bedendo, TOB, Duryea, Crozier

Rookie List: three vacancies with Roarke delisted (not automatically elevated), plus McComb? (Raak only Cat B)

          Not super drastic.

In some very close matches, Elliot kicked 5 on him, Papley 4, Cripps 5, TobyG 5

he has been a great servant but passed it.

I mean look, fine, move Duryea on, as a club without a list wracked with structural flaws probably would, but we're stuck with the small matter of who the crap do we replace him with?

There is nobody else on the list with his skill set or aptitude for the role.

Maybe this off-season we'll trial a 3rd rate mid down back or ask a natural rebounding type to play a lock down role and I for one will have my popcorn ready in that event.

Would you rather concede all the goals or try someone else down back. We lost those games by 12 points against Pies and a goal against the others.

Yeah, he's perhaps the most logical of the bunch in a 'why not, we've gotta play him somewhere' kinda way but despite his good straight line speed, fear he lacks both the agility and frankly the brains to mind dangerous small forwards of any quality.

I'd rather have Duryea. And that's where we're at ...

TBB already mentioned VDM, then there is Cleary, Williams can go back, JJ is still around. Gallagher may develop into a small HBF.

Agree, the big fear I have with VDM is his ability to read the play . I am not convinced his a natural footballer , but let’s see what happens after 50 games . That’s the bench mark I take to see if he can make . We are stuck with him for another 2 years

I pretty much agree with the above . I really wonder if we made finals if we would still cut this deep? Our lack of depth this year has been exposed . It?s time to cut deep and start the ?refresh? .
