Nice one. He is a freak of nature. When he came out with his waist coat, moustache, bowler hat and sang acapella for 10 minutes the crows was in stunned awe and silence. Then he ripped through the banjo and the place went wild.

Rainbow this year was an exceptional experience. Arrived on Thursday afternoon and had my tent set up by 4pm. First night there was no music but a few renegade set-ups were playing. Got around 9 hours sleep that night, it was great.

Music started at 4pm on Friday afternoon and went through 24 hrs until Monday at 19:00. Across about 5-6 stages.

Say what you want about hippies and the alternative folk that make up certain subsections of our society, though I'll defend them to the hilt on their ability to party and produce a quality visual and audio experience. Like any festival you attend there a people that take things to far, and people that don't respect the space they are within however, the most overwhelming thing for me about the days I spent there between Thursday and Tuesday was the party spirit and goodwill that engulfed the vast majority of attendees.

Our camp site was set up brilliantly, and we ran a renegade party most nights for people who we didn't know to enjoy, as long as they attended with a good attitude and a smile. We were lucky enough to have international standard dj's play (some who played in key slots at the festival on big stages) for us as well.

Overall the quality of music was outstanding, and the thought and level of sophisticated production that went into the festival was amazing. I saw some of my favourite dj's play amazing music in the open air, amongst the trees. It was truly a fantastic experience.

I went and saw Thee Oh Sees on Thursday at the Hi Fi, awesome gig, my ears are still ringing from it. Huge bill with Boomgates second from the top and this awesome band Nobunny, who sound exactly like the New York Dolls and have a lead singer who got around in a leather jacket (no shirt), a bunny mask and his underwear.

Me too - though last time I saw them at the Music Bowl (when they headlined the BDO - not their last tour) MJK got on my nerves (more than usual)

Still looking forward to it though - they always sound amazing

Went through a bit of an ordeal but got a Golden Plains ticket. Dinosaur Jr will be the best, plus I can bring my own beers!

I saw Dinosaur Jr play at the Prince Of Wales in the late '80s. Awesome.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I've seen Dinosaur Jr about 8 or 9 times. They're probably my favourite all time band, but I think last time I saw them will maybe be the last time.

I'm a bit tired of J's antisocialism, and maybe I'm just getting old, but plonking your guitar down in front of the speaker when you go off stage isn't cool, it's just annoying.

That being said, the show was still good, the music was still great. So I probably will go again sometime. God I'm a hypocrite.

I've never seen them before (TBH I've barely been a casual fan over the years - really like the new album though) and am going to the Corner gig in a few weeks. Hopefully they'll sound as great as you remember

                          Yeah they will.

That's one thing I can't fault them on. They always sound great.

Loud as hell though, especially in a little place like the Corner. Be interested to hear what you think afterwards.

Awesome! Completely forgot tickets were on sale, always been a favourite of mine and saw them open for Foo Fighters a couple of years ago. Hilarious show but a killer band too, very talented guys.

It really was an awesome experience. Not for everyone, as there's aspects of the five nights from camping without serenity to certain types of behaviour that many wouldn't really be interested in.

There wasn't many, if any live bands in the conventional sense. It's a festival geared towards electronica, and while there were some acts and collaborations that would be viewed as more traditional I didn't actually see any of them.

The style of music I really like is generated by dj's and producers who in some cases play live from electronically stored samples and pieces of music they've pre-constructed. There is a great deal of "on the fly" work that goes into that sort of performance however, but it's more of a building of different sounds exercise rather than a manual creation of sound exercise. The large number of key/headliner acts play and mix tunes they've made themselves.

A mate of mine played, his name is Jamie Stevens and he came to fame via the group Infusion. He considers himself to be a live act, because he makes his own tracks and samples to take into a live gig. From talking to him and watching him up close it's pretty clear to me he's putting the sound you hear from the speakers with a lot of manual input. He doesn't just press play and wait for the tune to finish like it might sound. In fact, the complexity of the sound he pushes out doesn't allow him much time for doing much else when he's playing.

Some of the dj's still play great music, albeit made by other people. I suppose it's their taste and mixing ability that you buy into when they play. It's all about them having access to this great music you're listening to, and you not having the same access.
