Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Went to Let Them Eat Cake at Werribee Mansion yesterday.

It rained, I got drenched. Didn't prepare well enough, but luckily it stayed warm enough for the rest of the day and with some strategic positioning I didn't get wet again.

Man it was young. I'm old. No more Melbourne festivals for me, I don't think.

Some of the tunes were OK, and the setting was magnificent. But the sound didn't hit the mark and with the type of music they were pushing you can't afford for it not to.

Melbourne festival boots.............hung up and retired.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Just over a year ago, we were holiday in Belgium and my daughter (18 then), asked if I could go to a concert with her in Brussels. I said no way, I am too old. Anyway we were staying near the venue and she went on her own (we walked her there). We picked her up around 11pm, and while were were waiting for her I noticed the crowd varied in age. Afterwards my daughter told me the crowd was a lot older than the crowds that saw the band in Melbourne.

      Maybe its a Melbourne thing?

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Future of the Left were great as usual last night. Mix of older & new stuff and a little McLusky sprinkled in. Good representation from Curses. Only two songs from Plot that I recall. The early songs from the new album didn't seem super tight but thought they did justice to French Lessons.

Considering seeing Parquet Courts, Ken Stringfellow and Jason Isbell, but probably won't do all of them (or perhaps any)

Jason Isbell is pretty cool live as is Ken Stongfellow - I've seen them both twice and both times each were the support acts.

I think it's for the most part accepted EDM festivals are for people in their 20's. Rainbow's a bit different, with a more mature crowd. Can't talk for rock festivals though, as I don't go to them.

Perhaps because Future Entertainment has gone into liquidation and nothing was held at the Music Bowl more young folk trekked to The Mansion.

I can see why people get sick of them. I've only been to two Melbourne festivals (including Wednesday) in the last four or five years. I don't think I could be arsed with the long lines for toilets and drinks (half an hour for each isn't out of the ordinary) anymore, or the rude nature of the crowd who more and more seem to have terrible spacial awareness.

I've seen Stringfellow with the Posies in full band and acoustic mode. More tempted as he's out to do a Big Star show for Sydney Fest. Seen Isbell before too. Love him in solo acoustic mode. Highlights his voice and beautiful guitar playing.

Had to miss FOTL because of NYE recovery (it was a 4 day event this year).

Jason Isobell is playing Boogie so I will get to see him there.

Ken Stringfellow I'd be keen to see, didn't know the Posies in 1997 but when I went to see them (supporting Hoodoo Gurus) they blew me away, amazing live.

Went to Arcade Fire last night, absolutely amazing.

We were right up the front (which also happened to be where Tom Campbell was standing. He has outstanding music taste, this is the third concert I've seen him at. Also for those wondering his beard has made a triumphant return).

They are so impressive, just so much sound and a ridiculous amount of great songs. Wake Up was epic. Highly recommend.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Was also there last night. They made some very intricate and difficult songs sound effortlessly easy in a live setting. Here Comes The Night Time, Sprawl II and No Cars Go were the highlights (among many) for me last night. Not that they have any dud songs, but I had no complaints at all with the set list from last night - all 4 albums were given equal representation and it wasn't all just about Reflektor.

Really loved the set list. The only song I was dissaponted didn't make it was Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels), but it was such a good mix and some of their songs that I tend to skip on my ipod (Jona Vark, the Suburbs) were really good. Loved the opening bit too.
