Is that Jeff Duff from Kush?

I can still remember seeing Kush play on TV when I was just a kid (Less than 10 because we moved from the house I remember seeing it in 1974) and it made a huge impression. Reckon it might have been the first band I saw with a MOOG synthesizer.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yep. I only had vague recollections of that album cover in the 70's. Then about 5 years ago i saw he was doing a bowie show and it blew me away.
He bought a bio out a couple of years ago and it is one of the best ever. Very entertaining and laugh out loud tales such as when he was making out in Richie Blackmores van when Deep Purple hit the stage at Sunbury. To his 10 years in the uk in the 80's and having Bowie (who ended up living next door to him in Sydney), Warhol etc drop by. Controversial and eccentric. And still plays competition cricket and tennis at 65! What's not to like?

Another reason to love Jeff Duff! That's exactly what I love about cricket. It gives overly competitive middle aged men like me an avenue to get all the gall out of my system while also providing that physical work out that games like bowls (which I like) just doesn't give you. There is something cathartic about putting your feet up on a Saturday night after having been in the field all day (perhaps not the whole day!) and just reflecting.

There must be a few of us that feel that way, one day I was watching one of the Sunday sports shows and realised that the reason Gideon Haigh's voice sounded so familiar was he had spent a couple of hours standing at short leg sledging me and offering some advice about my batting style a couple of weeks before!

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Just saw X and the Violent Femmes at the House of Blues in Houston last Friday.

The Femmes are always good fun but really X blew them away. When you see them on stage they look absolutely ancient
The guitarist Billy Zoom looks like he's come straight out of a old timey group, he sat on a stool the whole gig with his Gretsch guitar right up under his chin but he wailed away with ease, never even looking at his fingers and just smiling to the crowd.
It was the weirdest thing seeing this old guy rocking out by sitting on his stool smiling away with no movement at all, no power stances, face contorsion or anything.

Going to forget about stupid football by seeing Jeff Tweedy at the Atheneum tonight. Stupid, stupid football.

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Heading to the Yarraville club tonight to see tim rogers and band celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Who's 'Tommy'! They're going to perform the double album in track sequence.
Finally got to see the movie a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it which surprised me.
And Rogers will be lapping up playing songs by the band that influenced him so much.

That is a pretty sweet month!

I've got COG coming up at the Croxton in a couple of weeks. It completely pains me that I have to go to a pokies den to see them, but I don't mind the actual space as a band room.
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

                        What did you think?

I went to the Thursday night, the new ‘metal’ album got a solid airing (and sounded great!) They then closed on Cyboogie which was a real anticlimax.

Overall, great show and awesome to see one of my favourite bands reach this level

I loved their set, they closed with 3 or 4 new songs which rocked. Im looking forward to this 80s Metallica sort of sounding album.

Their Fishing for fishies Album stuff was a real downer for the punters imo, it really kills the mosh haha. Probably their weakest album.

I really love this band too, great to see them getting the attention they deserve.

Sounds like they learned the lesson of Thursday’s response.

Don’t mind the Fishies album, but live it’s jarring next to Mind Fuzz/Nonagon/Rats Nest etc

The new Rats Nest stuff sounded brilliant.

I can report that COG, once again, are bloody good. It's a bit scary that "Are You Interested" is still as pertinent as it was more than ten years ago when it was released.

Admittedly, I didn't see that much as a 5"3 female - their core fan demographic seemed to be bearded, burly blokes of 6"+ so I didn't have a hope!

Change of pace for me - seeing The Nude Party at the Curtin on Thursday - poor man's Rolling Stones if you will, but seriously catchy retro psych (the dudes voice in a couple of tracks is VERY Jagger)
