By the way the Theater Royal was a great spot to go back in the day.
Are you a Golden Square boy like me? I apologize unreservedly.

My dad was a Sandhurst supporter and my granddad followed South Bendigo-Saturday nights were big in Honeysuckle street. The Threatre Royal was the first place I saw Star Wars in 1977.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

like a dusty man then? Or WOW Jones.

I googled mapped our old property in Hunter street in Castlemaine the other day. Its still a two acre block with a miner's cottage on one side. Mum says they couldn't get town sewage or electricity to the other acre block so it was never subdivided.

Feels like this should be on another thread, but sorta on-topic here goes.

Any other recommendations for Castlemaine? We're staying for 3 nights at the Big 4 there Labour Day weekend (two birds one stone - gig and a family holiday)

And yep, it's at the Theatre Royal - I've never been, but it looks a nice place.

Is the Chinese Market still there? There is a historical house in Hunter street called Buda, I don't know if it still open to he public but it's a great way to fill in half a day. If you play golf there is a decentish par 3 course with lots of dams to go yabbying. Apart from that it's a decent pub crawl down Barkers street!

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Went to A Day On The Green last month at Rochford Winery. Was so excited to see Cold Chisel, my first time seeing them (better late than never). Got there about 4.30, and it belted down rain for the next 4 and a half hours. What a miserable way to spend an afternoon! Support acts were - Magic Dirt: I like the singer, but their music is garbage IMO. Take away the effects pedals and amp feedback, don't see what the appeal is. Birds of Tokyo - sharp, smooth and.... dull. They're good if you like that sort of thing I guess. Singer has absolutely zero charisma or stage presence. I didn't see The Detonators.

Chisels were great, made the rest of the day worth it. Jim's voice was OK, Mossy played well. Don Walker is the anchor. Loved it. Sat in the "disabled viewing area", which was on the same level as the GA. Result - saw the back of people's heads for the bulk of the day. Emailed them, and only got a reply yesterday. Said virtually nothing, but that they would take my concerns on board and review the arrangements for future shows. I don't expect anything to change. Last time I go there I reckon, not my thing.

Had a ticket to see US country singer John Prine in April. The show has been cancelled as he has had to return home for treatment on a hip injury. I had only recently discovered him, so I'm disappointed. Hoping he comes back later in the year.

Agree on Birds of Tokyo. As bland and boring as you can get. At least their spin ofg Karnivool have a little edge about them, BoT are the rock band your mum likes.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

                      I thought Karnavool pre-dated BoT?

Obvious Tool fans, with Birds of Tokyo their way of cashing in by playing bland MoR music that kids who have never been on public transport consider 'rock'.

Say Okilly Dokilly on Saturday night - was far, far better than expected. The schtick of 'Ned Flanders themed death metal band' sounds like it wouldn't hold up after a song or two but the guys can really play and the frontman (who has clearly been blessed with Caleb Daniel's genetic material) has the charisma to hold a crowd.

Big fan of the support act Dr Colossus. They play old school stoner/doom and yes their songs are Simpsons themed so it was a support act match made in heaven. Hadn't been to the Corner for a couple of years and it was actually nice to walk somewhere where your feet stick to the floor again.

I don't care so much that he went to Richmond but I will never forgive Nathan Brown for changing the carpet at the Richmond Club Hotel.

Believe so - don't think BOT was a spin off either, they just shared Ian Kenny as singer.

I loved Karnivool's Themata when it came out (2005 - gawd I feel old)

Hahahaha some heritage listings should extend to front bars with a soul.

*EDIT* For example - The Parkview in North Fitzroy - lived around the corner from it in 2003, front bar was packed with vintage couches on sticky carpet with locals playing alt tunes on the juke box.

Fast forward 2 years and floor boards / new furniture went in & ushered out the soul of the joint.

I still enjoy the fact that back in the day someone had clearly pushed someone's head through the men's upstairs toilet wall at Pony and the head-sized hole wasn't repaired for well over a year.

North Melbourne Townhall Hotel haven't changed their decor for at least 30 years.

Attending the Adelaide 500, saw Sneaky Sound System, The Superjesus and Grinspoon last night. Skipped Pete Murray and Shepherd tonight. Hilltop Hoods, Illy and G-Flip tomorrow night. Saw half of them at Fire Fight last weekend as well!
