I hope we don't get in a position where we are paying Hunter to play against us and because of the gap that created that we get Harmes to play for us.
It's more that the relationship with Hunter was becoming toxic and we cut ties instead of sucking and seeing out of respect of him being a Father Son.

It really wasn't about his football, although the year leading up to him being traded was certainly sub-par for someone of his calibre.

I know you weren't alluding to that.

Would Harmes be any good as a small defender?

Oh god no. ?Emerged as a suitor?. What kind of poetic nonsense is that? It has been reported that a stray dog has ?emerged as a suitor? for a regurgitated souvlaki.

Wow there’s something going whacky with the punctuation?

Sorry. Not an AFL player. And he's had long enough to prove it. I just can't see the point of either the club offering him a contract or of him signing it.
100% not sure why we persisted to be honest.

He's junky above his head so that limits who he can play on.

I don't mind Harmes as look as his speed is still there. Open to the possibility of him playing as a pressure type small forward and/or a run with, but would prefer we go with Baz in that role if he is ready to roll.

Wasn't harmes the guy who tried to pick fights with dogs players at a nightclub post grand final? I've never seen anything to suggest he's not a jackass. Please steer clear dogs.

                        This.

I haven't paid close attention in recent times, but if his speed and movement is still there, he's not a bad option. Competitive, can run, can play a few different roles and adds to our depth. He would play more games with us than he doesn't.

I'm all for the 'wtf is the club doing' vibes, but improving our depth with Coffield and Harmes cheaply isn't a bad thing IF we think we can still contend.

That is what you would pay for a very good proven player.

                          Madness.
I recoiled at first too. But, in an inspired moment, I realised that I am more likely the idiot than our recruiters. So tried to think of a rationale.

It occurred to me that the '24 draft is said to loaded with quality mids. until quite deep. So a second back for our first might get someone of equal quality next year. That is not the case this year.

I can also see the value in using multiple picks to get up to the very elite part of the draft. Sometimes you have to pay above market to get exactly what you want when you want it.

We are likely to have first rounders in the 12-18 range for many years, so occasionally bundling two years together to move up makes sense.

I do like the idea of Watson.

This forum keeps talking about wanting role players with grunt and then we are linked with one and the board shuts down.

I'd take a role player who isn't universally seen as being cooked, or at least had some scope for improvement. The only way for Harmes is down.

Fair enough. Not sure how high he was to begin with to be honest but if we want a 18-22 hard at it role player we could defintely do worse.

I'm not sold on the idea either but I get why we're interested.

I'm not sure he's cooked and I highly doubt we'd be looking at him if we didn't think there was a specific role we wanted him to play (and we thought he could do it).
