Number one kid might be a gun too. I want Tim to stay, but not as the highest paid player in the comp by a stretch. Are you happy to more than double his current salary? Have him on 50% more than Bonts, 60% more than Naughton, 150% more than Treloar (our component)?

    What would you do BAD?

Yep. Grundy was cooked in his last year at Collingwood. Melbourne made a boo boo.

For starters, I would structure a deal that will make him happy but also not a deal that is ridiculous. Have to also sell a vision about the club, his mates and not playing in a loser team for the next 5 years.

I don't believe he would be on more than Bont and I don't believe the rumours on salary value till something concrete happens.

He is worth at least $900k a year, but I am sure Sam can structure something that suits all.

I can live with that too. But the rumour that is given to us by a fellow poster is $1.5M a season. Anything like that, I simply fold and throws my cards in. I don’t know exactly why WCE would, but if they do then it’s about turning it into an opportunity. That’s silly money where as fans you say congrats to him and wish him well.

The math doesn't quite work for them the same as Collingwood so maybe we need to settle for taking on more of his salary. Could you live with $750k? IE literally replacing English. Melbourne would be spending $200k-ish and getting rid of $400k or thereabouts which probably makes more sense to them.

Unless of course the Collingwood contribution stands in which case send him over for a pack of chips
Swans and Port also need a ruck, and Geelong will ask the question (as they do every year). We'd not just be talking to Melbourne in isolation, we have to convince Grundy to choose us over other options then work out a trade.

If the Melbourne mega play for Oscar Allen is real, negotiations could end up in a monster three way deal that gets done 5 minutes before the end of trade week. 1

Definitely a fold em' deal - retain Naughts & Bailey Smith with the leftover cash and sniff around for KPDs (I really wished we grabbed Payne when he was a fringe player two years ago). Unfortunately, Swans & Port are also looking for defenders.

Payne meh. Looks great with Harris Andrews, play him with Gardner or Keath and see how he goes.

                    Any suggestions on an alternative?

Was Payne a suggestion for now? I don’t study the lower leagues but if we looking backman, surely there is a failed forward or state league late bloomer we can try that’s not going to cost the earth.

Grundy makes sense but two clubs considering him surplus in two years does not fill me with confidence.

Are we forgetting that Tom Campbell is still playing and presumably available?

I think he wanted to stay at Collingwood and they wanted him but just realised they made a bad deal. He decided that money was more important and he accepted Melbourne's vision.

BTC wouldn't fit into Bevo's idea of a ruckman.

The better redemption arc would be Ben Hudson reprising John Farnham/KISS and coming out of retirement for the 55th time
